Hypnic jerking

My body twitches and jerks quite often when I’m trying to sleep. It wakes me up and prevents me from keeping asleep.

It gives me a feeling of anxiety afterwards…

Anybody experience this??

Sounds like it could be Tardive Dyskinesia. Have you told your doctor?

and no I have not experienced it.

I haven’t… but usually only happens when I’m trying to sleep.

Still probably worth mentioning. You never know, it could get worse and pdoc may want to change meds
or dosage or something. Or maybe give you something for it.

Hypnagogic Jerk (Hypnic Jerk): Why Do I Twitch When I Fall Asleep?.

If you only have it when you go to sleep maybe its that though. Article says it’s common. Sorry if I worried you. My mind always jumps to TD when I hear about jerking and whatnot.

I have it every night, especially when i have stress or am fatigued. I have had it for years, a neurologist told me once it’s nothing to be frightened of

I would be focusing to try to goto sleep, and my leg or my whole arm would just jerk like I had electricity go through my body or something.

It usually hits me with voices simultaneously… it’s so strange

Like just now I’m trying to rest, but had a audio hallucination saying “ be happy!” And shocks me awake

That article I posted mentioned this:

Symptoms of a hypnagogic jerk include:

  • jerk or jolt of a muscle or body part
  • falling sensation
  • sensory flash
  • dream or hallucination that leads to a startle, jump, or fall
  • quickened breathing
  • rapid heartbeat
  • sweating

So a “dream or hallucination” with your jerk like you mentioned seems like a normal symptom of it so maybe nothing to worry about.
