I’m medicated and haven’t had any hallucinations (that I know of) in a long time, but I’ve just come to the realization that I may be having hallucinations before I go to sleep. From what I’ve seen from looking up the symptoms, it may be hypnagogic hallucinations? I hear voices whispering my name or talking, but it feels like they’re coming from “inside” my head. I don’t understand it because I’m on a surprisingly normal sleep schedule despite it being summer, I don’t drink, I haven’t been skipping medications, etc.
Has anyone else dealt with this?

I had a hypnopompic hallucination(which is the opposite of hypnagogic hallucinations, when waking up instead of when falling asleep) once. I saw a transparent person standing near the foot of my bed which slowly faded away as I woke up more. My understanding is that hypnagogic and hypnopompic hallucinations are normal and occur in the general(non sz) population.
I don’t keep track of how long they last because I try to abstain from looking at my phone until I go to sleep, but yes to what you said. They don’t say anything threatening (at least what I can remember) and sound mostly comforting, but they annoy me because I don’t like to hear things that aren’t there when I’m just trying to sleep.
I don’t recall hearing or seeing anything when I’m awake.
Thanks for the replies, everyone. I’m feeling better about this. I just hope it goes away soon.
I have narcolepsy and hypnogogic hallucinations come with the territory. I experience it all the time. Hallucinations associated with a half asleep state actually aren’t uncommon even for the general non-mentally ill population.
I used to have hypnagogic and hypnopompic hallucinations when I slept too much and was under a lot of stress.
After I worked on reducing my sleep time and increasing my sleep efficiency, they went away.
I still sometimes get a whiff of them if I use seroquel to help me sleep.
