How to get off clozapine, I literally can't sleep without it, terrible chronic insomnia

I tapered to 25 mg
Then went cold turkey.
It was a ■■■■ show of withdrawal for 72 hours or so. I had weeeird symptoms. But I got through it.

Unfortunately I didn’t move to another ap
And had severe psychosis at the time

Interesting I’m in same boat
My pdoc thinks I don’t really need an AP

Long story short it’s believed my particular case was drug induced psychotic episode
Scared to go off it though

Taking 100mg of Clozaril each night at the moment
We may titrate to something else, will see at my next appointment :crossed_fingers:

I’m going to voice something that will make me very unpopular among you and other users.
You will probably nevet get off of the Clozapine unless you take another antipsychotics.
I speek from experience because I nearly attempted suiciide 8 times the last two years from getting off of Geodon “160 mg.
I’m still not fine but doing alot better.
I took the Ziprasidone for 20 years and had a rise of 250 mg qutiapine.
You’ll probably not experience TD, weight gain or akatisia on that low dose.
But you’ll never be able to sleep without Clozapine.

I know what I wrote sonds a little hash but I just dont want you to suffet from sleep depriation like I did the last 12 years while on Zipasidone. 25 mg Clozapine is more safe than most meds on the market and can be taken for a life time without adverse side effects.

But if you are seriously considering going off of Clozapine then order clozapine micro dosing pills on a special pharmacy and then lower with a very little dose after a longer time span. The lowering process can take a couple of years.
I quit Ziprasidone and the lastt years I was awake for around 40 hours and sleeping “6 hours. Now my sleep has improved a load. Now Im awake for 40 hours but finally compensate with 16 hours of sleep.

These are helpful for people with chronic pain, too.

The trick is to retire at exactly the same time every night and to arise at exactly the same time every morning, to an alarm.

Also, it’s important when you lie down in bed at night, to relax all your muscles, large, medium and small. Especially your tiny muscles around your mouth, nose, forehead and eyes. @irrelevant @letmesleep

I tried gabapentin. Didn’t work.

I’m still on 1.5mg of clonazepam. I guess it’s been 3 years now.

I’m dependent on it now. But I’m doing great.

F*ck olanzapine lol

It’s a drug from HELL. Makes you gain a ■■■■ ton of weight, raises blood pressure, diabetes, ect…

FU-CK OLANZAPINE.

I’m tapering off very slowly!
I’m down to 50mg now if Clozaril

Sleep so far is ok
Some nights a bit of trouble getting to sleep, but once I start I’m good

I’m on Lurasidone, 20mg to help in case of anything, but so far so good

Only negative I feel withdrawal effects for a few days each time I drop dose
Also I feel a bit of akathisia, but not very bad. Not like I remember I had from Ability anyway
Might be cause I’m on 2 APs right now or something

Hey guys, just an update.

I was getting 7 hours of sleep at the previous Clozapine dose. But then Ambien started giving me crazy joint pain in the morning so I had to reduce it. And you probably know that while lowering that, I had to increase Clozapine to compensate after struggling to sleep during that transition.

One of the issues I have is that at night, right when I’m about to take Clozapine, I get my energy back. And during this time I want to do so much that I couldn’t do during the day, but I have to sleep soon. So my mind is racing and I am wanting to read and do things while I should be sleeping.

So I try my best now and make sure that I do not think when I’m in bed, even if I did nothing that day. It’s hard but I managed to do it and shutting off my thinking or thoughts made a difference and helped me sleep faster. I should have known this before but it’s just so disappointing that I get my energy back at night and can’t do the things I want to.

Typically, we like to leave inactive threads alone and just start a new thread instead. This is different than how some forums are run, but we do it this way because it frequently upsets users to have old topics revived when they are no longer relevant. It can also be frustrating to the person who revived the thread when they don’t get a reply, because the original poster is no longer active or no longer finds the topic relevant. Feel free to start a new thread on this topic.
