How to find my unique clothing style?

I know we’re not designers here.

But this question lingers in my head for many years…

Should I wear what I like?
Or what suits me best?

For example dresses looks good on me, but I literally hate the feeling they give to me while I wear it.

If you have your style, when and how you found it?

Comfort matters a lot to me. Quality of material.

I agree a lot.
feeling comfortable is very important.
I noticed that I feel best in bigger than my size clothes

If you dislike how a garment feels you should perhaps wear what you really like instead.

Confidence is so important and comfort too and maybe with you since we are all a little mental… maybe with you it’ll be a virtuous cycle upward!!

On a personal note, I shop Nordstrom at times(luxury) because I like their buyers’ taste.

I like their curations.

I’d be curious how @Moon would advise since they are comfortable with intrinsicly offering the world a bit of their flare!!!

I might have flown too close to the sun with wax wings on this thread.

Apologies @Moon if you felt like it was attention in a bad way(felt singled out)

Caffeine is the problem again. It’s something my Dad and I have in common though… : /

I’m a seamstress and fashion designer by occupation! I went to school for 4 years to learn fashion design.

as for the question, should you wear what you like:

Yes. a 100% yes.

if you feel comfortable in your clothing, it shows.

there are some “rules” of what suits different body types, colours that suit your skin tone etc

but I find clothing just an adventure.

I have always had a very personal way to dress… I was a goth girl for a long time, but now I wear pretty much whatever I want. I know my body type and what looks good on me, what to avoid.

I’m a curvy girl but I wear short shorts and short skirts, if I want to. my style is my style and no-one can tell me what to wear.

I create some of my clothing myself so I get exactly what I want.

but if I feel bad in something I won’t wear it.

for me clothing is a very important way to express myself and I put on a different outfit every day, even if I’m going to just stay at home.

I think everybody should be able to wear whatever they want. but it takes courage to do so. and I understand it is not easy. for me it has been just a very important part of my personality. I often get compliments on my clothing by strangers.

I appreciate all the kinds words!

For me I like to thrift and find clothes I like that also are comfortable. I shop a lot though, and rarely actually find much.

I just sort of do my own thing when it comes to clothing. I wear a lot of workwear brands like Ben Davis and Dickies. I call my style “cholo/punk/dad.”

Just wear whatever you feel comfortable with and your confidence will show.

And ignore fast fashion.

@Moon My thrift shop has been pretty dry lately too. Hopefully more donations will come through in Fall and Winter.

I like to be comfortable for sure. I also like being excited to wear an outfit. It was always jeans(Levi’s) and t shirt, hoodie in the winter. I recently discovered Jean cut pants with some color so browns tans greens. I’ll now wear those or jeans. I also prefer kinda casual shoes. I wear these all the time. I like brown or grey shoes.

Definitely wear what you’re happiest in. Style is completely subjective and made up. I mean, I try to find a medium ground and appear presentable but comfort is paramount.
