I take Invega (10mg/day) and an SSRI currently and I’ve gained like 25 kilos, that’s around 50 pounds, what do you guys take to combat the weight gain caused by the meds?
I gained a lot of weight on invega too, but what I’ve been focusing on is decreasing body fat. I always wanted to be around 200lbs but just ripped
I take Invega too 9mg a day and i’ve gained 12 kg so far since January or so
I was given Metformin to help stabilize my bloodsugar, but that’s because I have another condition that also makes me gain weight if left uncontrolled.
I hate to say it, I really do, but exercise and healthy foods do help.
I hate exercising, so I take long walks. Dieting is hard, and it often feels unfair that people like us have to struggle more than others with this too, but try to remain positive.
Good luck!
I take a bcomplex. That curbs abilify hunger pangs. I don’t know if it would work with invega.
Did you try calorie counting? Download the “myFitnessPal” app. It’s a good calorie counting app.
I put on 40 pounds since starting Latuda but I don’t eat any more than I used to. Going to have to do some cardio but Geodon killed my ability to run. Have to do something low impact.
Ambilify has been good, I have managed to stay a steady weight, but I have to really work at it hard
Try to eat low calorie food and low calorie drink, I gained 70 pounds on Chlorpromazine in under a year, but I am losing weight now by just having a milkshake for breakfast, taking a vitamin B6 tablet with my main meal and eating fruit as snacks, I also have a takeaway such as an indian curry or Chinese once a week as a treat, I also give up alcohol 3 weeks ago.
I have sza and my pdoc wanted me on a mood stabilizer. We chose Topamax because it can be helpful with weight loss. I’m still trying to get up to the normal dose (whatever that is) but so far I have noticed a big difference in sugar/carb cravings.
Also I just bought a recumbent bike, I’m waiting for it to be delivered. As soon as it gets here I’m restarting my 1500 calorie a day diet and will be using myfitnesspal.com to help me count calories. Hopefully with the Topamax, the diet and the exercise I’ll start to lose more of the 100 I’ve gained.
To lose weight and maintain my current ideal body weight, I count calories on www.MyFitnessPal.com and exercise everyday. Works great for me. My current BMI is 22.5 And has been for the past two years.
Thank you guys, I used to count calories on MFP but I kinda gave up when I saw no change in my weight for like a month but I wasn`t being too strict with the diet, the lack of motivation maybe but that’s no excuse since I had lost 3 kilos before that month, I guess if I’m more active and come back to counting calories I may be able to start losing weight again, also already ordered some B vitamins to make things a bit easier.
I take Concerta (108 mg/d) and Ritalin (10 mg/d), which helps with weight loss.
I gained around approx 40 pounds on Latuda in one year. That medication made me so sick, it was horrible. Did not work for me. Now on Geodon, I am slowly losing weight and getting better :o)
Abilify maintained my weight with eating so little plus crazy water retention.
I could not run with Geodon too… I haven’t tried for a while now.
I took some weight on Zyprexa, Abilify and Saphris. When I began to take an antipsychotic, my weight was about 150 lbs, which was very low. 4 years later I was having a BMI of 25 at 185 lbs. So I took 35 lbs. I lost 9 lbs since some months just by eating about 1430 kcalories per day and by walking about 15 km a week. So now I’m 176 lbs with a BMI of 23.8. I’d like to weight about 170 lbs. I’m currently losing about 2-3 lbs a month.
Consciously avoiding over eating and proper exercise can help to check the weight gain.
Exercise. Portion control. For me enough protien to not feel hungry!
I am currently struggling with weight gain. I am 5’10" and had started out at around 155 lbs. 5 years ago. I was originally diagnosed as bipolar and put on meds for it. I gained about 80 lbs. My meds were changed when I was diagnosed as schizoaffective two years later, and I lost 90 lbs. My meds were changed again about a year after that, and I gained 100 lbs. I then had my meds changed again, and my weight went down to 154 lbs. I had maintained the 154 for almost a year and was very happy with myself. Now I’ve had med changes, and wouldn’t you know it, I’m gaining weight. In the past 4 months, I have gone up 20 lbs. It is just depressing. It really takes a toll on the body. I can’t find where I put my old clothes, so I am going to have to buy a new wardrobe- again.
In the past, Topamax has helped me. I am on it now, though, and it isn’t doing anything. I believe it has a positive effect overall when my antipsychotics and antidepressants aren’t combating it’s influence. I take it for chronic migraines.
I took Abilify and gained about 40kgs. I tried dieting when I was taking it but it didn’t work. I kept gaining weight. It only stopped when my doctor took me off the medication.
A shame to hear that, my pdoc changed my med from Invega to abilify in a hope to lose weight, let’s see how it goes tho…
I gained 90 pounds in 1 year on seroquel. On geodon I have lost 30 but I’m also counting calories and exercising a few times per week.
