How to be motivated with antipsychotic medication?

Hi, do you know ways to be motivated with antipsychotic medication?

Supplements!

Living life without the common human hormones of dopamine is a real drain and that is essentially what we are doing with APs.

The fact that doctors ignore this fact and expect people to live without all the happiness and motivation that neurotypicals take for granted always annoys me.

For me, it is definitely the meds rather than sz negative symptoms. Others will disagree with me.

Exercise. Supplements. Probiotics (also a supplement, but so helpful they deserve mention on their own), diet, regular exercise, maintaining a positive attitude, and having activities you really love. That would be photography, paddle boarding, walking, archery, and cooking in my case.

Finally, I manage my stress level very carefully. Less stress means less symptoms. Fewer symptoms means I can function on a lower dose of APs. A lower dose of APs results in lower fatigue as a side-effect of medication.

Hope this helps.

No I won’t. Some people get hammered especially hard by the meds. Give me even a small dose of Haldol and it’s like I will sleep for the next 48 hours straight.

i must be weird cause the medication gives me more motivation than without it.

The only thing that works for me is to force myself to do something. Once I get going, it’s much easier to build motivation.

Do anything except procrastination.

Start with small tasks and build yourself up gradually to bigger tasks. Do something like take a shower or dress nice and once you got those down pat build up to bigger things like cleaning a room like a living room or the kitchen. Once you feel you can do those things then do something bigger like doing a load of laundry or going to the store. Once you do all those things well than maybe clean the yard or take the dog for a walk. Those are all just random examples, you can choose your own things to do, you’re teaching yourself to be motivated.

I’ve struggled with this lately on my specific antipsychotic. Coffee doesn’t even get me amped anymore either. There are things that I have to do though and I normally get those done. The other stuff is a slow process.
