I made a switch of meds from Amisulpride to Olanzapine at the end of 2019. Generally speaking I feel better on Olanzapine. I’m now less tired, less anxious. But one thing is bad about Olanzapine: I’m become a bit moody. Now I often felt regretful over what I had done many years ago, also I am worried about something in future. I’m no longer the carefree person which I was when on Amisulpride. Because I am moody now I am less motivated than before because when you are unhappy you can’t be focused on doing reading and writing.
Above is my self observation regarding the side effects of antipsychotics.
Yeah negative symptoms are hard to conquer. From what my psychiatrist has told me and from what I’ve read on here there’s not much meds can do for negatives, unfortunately.
Just try and break tasks down into small goals to reach throughout the day.
And try hard not to be hard on yourself if you don’t reach all the goals in one day.
I think all APs cause negative symptoms like loss of motivation because they lower dopamine function. Reducing dopamine is key to stop positive symptoms and prevent psychosis.
I struggle with motivation to start tasks, get work done, take care of myself, take care of the house, and take care of the pets. I’m not sure if it’s a side effect of the antipsychotic or a symptom of my schizoaffective… or both of those things.
Yeah, lack of motivation is problematic. Your family and friends might perceive you were lazy rather than suffering from the side effects of APs or from the negative symptoms…
It’s hard to start but exercise gives me great results. Way more motivated and sleep way less. It’s challenging early though. Really hard to get going regularly and to do enough to make a difference but there’s plenty you can do for free.
yes @rogueone excersize meditation yoga gyming have positive result in any illness … i walk every evening … i want to do intense excersize anytime soon …
i am thinking of changing my deit to mostly lefy green vegetable plus loads of fruit juice…
Hey @Unclehenry. I wish I did it in my thirties but I can make a difference now. Always good to get an opinion from your regular doctor. Don’t go hard early but slowly build up the effort. It takes a long time but it really can make a big difference just for overall health…and I think great gains for mental health too.
I googled for TCM, it says TCM stands for Traditional Chinese Medicine. Frankly I am not a fan of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I can’t say this in China as I could be criticised as being unpatriotic. To be safe from the crazy nationalism, I avoid arguing with them, just keep silent.
I don’t know the situations in Nepal. In china as well as in the US, the nationalists are going crazy these days.
