I’m realizing finally that after all the effort I’ve made to get shi done that the reason I’m having so much trouble doing so is because I’m sz, and man does it suck. Doing things with my day is just far too hard to even try, I do all the time and with as bad as my motivation gets I’m just bound to give up periodically… it just makes me mad cuz if I was normal I would have the energy and motivation to pursue my dreams. It would feel good to feel motivated by money again, or be driven by a goal.
Yea I seem to have motivation but I have useless concentration skills. I keep getting bored with everything I do after the first 5 minutes.
Do you have a job?
Not at the moment but yes, I did have one.
I’m planning on getting back on it soon…
Do u have a job ?
It’s normal to have low motivation with SZ. Almost everyone does at certain times I think. That said, I experience a range of anywhere from totally unmotivated to just a little unmotivated to moderately motivated. It’s hard to have a real strong drive being on meds.
I’m never motivated enough.
No not right now but I did just a week or two again, it wasn’t the right fit. I want to move to California. I’m so intolerant to the responsibility of life that I have a hard time things I don’t enjoy.
I was demotivated for years. Bought a fitness tracker and started exercising. It’s not easy but motivation has improved a lot. Medications same. Dosages the same. Only thing different was exercise. It’s a catch 22. You have to step one foot upon the path to do it and that is the hard thing when your unmotivated!
I have pretty good motivation for some things and lousy motivation for other things. You can’t get me to do things I hate doing, no matter how necessary.
How much do you exercise? How many minute a day and what do you do exactly? Running? Also how long after starting did it take your motivation to improve?
Started small. Got a fitbit and tried 10,000 steps a day. That is great for general health and if you do it everyday you get some motivation. It is hard early.
I’ve found that is good. These days I’m trying to loose weight so I jog and get that heart rate up. Just for motivation though I’ve found 10,000 steps early in your day before you do much is great.
Give it a month I’d say. I think you can get some good results.
So no vigorous exercise necessary? Great! I’m super glad I don’t have to run or lift weights… however, do you think jogging or lifting weights would give me even more motivation?
Start small. Decent exercise is walk briskly for 30 minutes at a time. Do that 3 days a week is great. A lot is to do with your medication but with negative symptoms like motivation it really is about pushing yourself.
I use a fitness tracker. You can pick up a cheap one. Set yourself a limit. 1,000 steps a day. Next day try 2,000. I started doing 10,000 steps as a goal and moved towards that.
It’s up to you. Walking briskly is still great load bearing exercise. It helps your heart and all too. Other things you can add later and that isn’t a bad thing!
Make sure your doc says it’s okay to exercise. Very important, especially if you are over 40.
Yeah, lack of motivation is a real killer. So much stuff that doesn’t get done because i just can’t work up the energy or interest to do it. I’m afraid i’m stagnating, that i’m not doing things right and that everything is going to fall apart very soon.
Make a list of accomplishments, already achieved. Ask your therapist or friends and family to help, if you get stuck. Smile.
Then, list what you want to do. Get help doing that, if you need it.
You can do it!
