Hi! Wondering what age you were when you were diagnosed with schizophrenia?
Hey @CakeFlourSugar Welcome to the forums.
I was 26 when I was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. That was back in 2004.
Hi @CakeFlourSugar . Welcome to the forum.
Is that your real name? If so, please choose another. I can change it for you. The reason being that this forum is public and anyone else can google your name, then end up seeing your posts.
Could you change it for me, thank you!
Yes, if you choose a new name. Just give me the name.

Hi! How are you doing now?
I was diagnosed at about 39 .
Thanks for asking, I’m doing better than ever. I switched from Olanzapine to Lurasidone and it’s made a huge difference. I got a job about 6 months ago after being unemployed for almost 18 years.
That is awesome!
I was diagnosed SZA, bipolar type, very very late – I’m 48 now, and I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 47. It was a loooong time to be improperly medicated, if medicated at all, and I wonder what kind of long term damage that did to my head.
My illness was missed by so many people. First, it was depression in my teens. Whenever I tried to tell someone about delusions, they convinced me it was something else. Or that I was overreacting because I thought everyone hated me. Then I was diagnosed DID, and that was hard. All of my delusions were considered some unresolved trauma, and no matter how much I did the therapy appropriate for DID, it just didn’t work. So my therapist called me difficult, because I wasn’t “willing.” Then it was MDD, then Bipolar II, then Bipolar I with psychosis, then finally Schizoaffective, bipolar type.
At 25 about of age.
Wow, that’s even later than me.
I was diagnosed around 41 or 42 years of age. I can’t remember exactly when but around there.
I am 48 now.
Welcome to the forum @CakeFlourSugar !
Makes you wonder what kind of life we could have had if they’d “caught” it sooner…
Thank you! Do you think it was different being diagnosed at a later age, do you think the symptoms are different?
I was diagnosed at age 21, but I was hospitalized at age 20 (1984).
Welcome @CakeFlourSugar! I was diagnosed with sza about 9 months ago when I was 36.
20 years old….

I have read that ,supposedly, those who develop sz later in life have a better prognosis. Of course, I could have had it to some extent and not gone into full blown psychosis until later in life. I dunno. Otherwise, as far as I know, the symptoms aren’t that different. Mine were primarily delusions though, not much on the way of hallucinations, if any. I had a few tiny things that may have been considered hallucinations, like the feeling that I was poisoned(with physical symptoms) and a ringing in my ear, but I’m not sure if those were hallucinations or not. For the most part it was just delusions for me.
