How much is enough to drink?

Went for depot. Got told i don’t drink enough and yet i have regular drinks of coffee/squash/and water during the day. Apparently you can tell by the elasticity of the skin. Not the first time i have been told this.

How many 8oz glasses of liquid should i be drinking?

Coffee can be dehydrating so even though you are taking in a liquid, it’s not helping with hydration.

I’m sorry if this sounds too personal or gross, but I’ve been told by more then a few docs during physicals that if the urine is clear or light in color, your doing well.

There is even a chart…
http://www.lcsasoccer.org/Forms/Player%20Safety/urinechart.pdf

at least a litre of water a day, fizzy drinks and coffee don’t count.
take care

Unfortunately liquid and hydrate do not always go hand in hand.

Caffeine acts like a mild diuretic so I guess neutral for hydration. It may not dehydrate you but it is not going to hydrate you either.

I know I don’t drink enough fluids. I don’t like water so I try to drink more herbal teas and flavored water with lemon or other fruits.

I think it’s 8 glasses of 8 oz of liquid per day.

I get head ache if I don’t drink enough. I have never counted how much I drink. But I think 2 litre /day.

The US Institutes of Medicine define adequate fluid intake as 3 liters per day, which is over 100 fl oz. At minimum, you should be getting around 2 liters per day.

Hope this helps!

Blessings,

Anthony

i drink a gallon a day. I think normal people, not athletes should drink 8 8oz glasses of water, not coffee a day. Coffee will dehydrate you, if you just drink coffee all day you will piss orange.

1/2 gallon (about 2 liters) of just water, plus whatever juice, milk, or other liquids you take during the day. that would probably = 3 liters or more.
I only have one 12 oz. cup of coffee in the morning and occasionally another half cup later and that is the most. People who drink a whole pot of coffee or more should not count that as liquids for reasons already stated.
I also drink those health drinks like Vitaminwater, or the Naked beverages (Green machine, Blue machine and Pomegranite Acai ) that are really good for you, though some of it is expensive.

Thanks. Found this re coffee and dehydration http://www.nhs.uk/news/2014/01January/Pages/A-small-amount-of-coffee-will-not-dehydrate-you.aspx

Personally I drink a fair bit of water. If I were you I would aim for a litre a day.

Sugar I must edit this as I now see youre saying how much liquids you should intake. Persoanlly that would be hard to call, but I agree with radmedtech and think 3 litres a day sounds right.

I think I’ve usually heard 8-12 glasses of water a day. I drink more than that and I have to try not to drink too much.

When I was growing up, everybody was saying 8 glasses of water a day. I heard this all the time. A few years ago I heard ONE doctor say that 8 glasses a day was not necessary.

I’m assuming 8 oz. glasses that would = half a gallon, which is what most people will tell you.
It might not be necessary to stay alive, but it is better for you if you have a 1/2 gallon a day.
