I took a 0.5mg pill of Klonopin a few days ago and my anxiety is still under control. Is Klonopin really that good or are my other medications (specifically Latuda) keeping my anxiety under control? My pdoc said I could use the KIonopin twice a day if I need to, which is good because my residual paranoia is tied to my anxiety. I’m worried about using the Klonopin everyday and getting dependent on it, however.
You should only use it for a couple of months. I had a very tough time coming off it, but I had been on it for a year.
L-theanine acts like a benzo but it’s available over the counter. However, I’ve been using that for over a year, and to my horror I discovered that I started having benzo like withdrawal when I tried to stop it.
To answer your question, it will help your anxiety for about a year in my experience. Don’t make the mistake of taking more than 0.5mg a day when you notice in a month or so that it’s not as effective as it used to be.
Anyway, best of luck.
What should I do after those couple of months? My anxiety has become a real issue for me. The problem is that I suffer from residual psychosis that is not responding to medications, and I take high doses of two antipsychotics. This residual psychosis has tied itself to my anxiety, and when I have high anxiety, I also get paranoid. So treating the anxiety means treating the paranoia. My pdoc just gave me Klonopin recently, and I used it for the first time this week.
Maybe I’ll try this L-theanine stuff, and see if it helps.
I use this and get great results with it

BUT. And it’s a big BUT. You’d better have some in reserve for when you want to come off it. I became unstable when I tried to quit it cold turkey. Now I’m just slowly reducing my daily dosage.
Treat it with the same respect you’d treat a benzo basically.
Klonopin has the longest half life of all the benzos I think it’s 72 hours. .5 is a pretty low dose but @everhopeful is right, you gotta be careful because it is habit forming. I know people who have been on it for 10+ years and have a really hard time getting off it.
I’m only taking .5 mgs once a day. It works ok.
In my opinion any benzo class drug that asserts an affinity to GHB receptors should be cycled to avoid both tolerance ramping and physiological dependency, regardless of initial dose. Even GABAergic nootropics like Phenibut present the same issues, yet are readily available for purchase online.
I wrote about a promising new drug called R-Baclofen a while back, which is GABAergic like benzos, but has no affinity to GHBrs, so tolerance and dependency are a non-issue. Can’t wait for it to come to market for conditions such as anxiety/autism etc. Plain old Baclofen is only prescribed for musculoskeletal pain unfortunately.
Yep, dependency is physiological like heroin, and in some cases just as difficult to quit.
I’ve been on klonopin .5 x2 daily for a month…I didn’t realise so many people have problems coming off it…it seems to last all day…I just wish it wasn’t addictive…
I take 0.5mg everyday
Sometimes I’ll take a bit more when I’m extra anxious
Use it only as prescribed. You should b fine.
I take Klonopin 0.75 mg once at night. It begins having an effect within an hour and lasts between six and 12 hours.I read it in wikipedia. It is good for anxiety, keeps my mind calm and cool.
Sublingual administration will cut that hour down to ~15 minutes for noticeable effects, usually less. One dose lasts 5-6 hours.
Benzos are VERY effective for combating anxiety-at first. You gain tolerance very quickly, or at least I did. .5 mg of Ativan worked for me for maybe 1 week. 1 mg worked for about 2 weeks. Then I had to take trazodone in addition with it. After a few weeks even that didn’t work.
Benzos are a short term fix. As in very short term, while you’re waiting for a long term med to kick in. Otherwise it’s just a slippery slope of continuously raising your dose, which is bad and can get you addicted. I quit Ativan a while back due to this.
In addition to the dependence issues, there are more and more studies coming out linking prolonged benzo use to dementia. Definitely a short term drug if you can avoid it.
@stellaglow, me too I find that klonopin works even on the next day for me me too,too paranoid and anxious about everything and my pdoc says that I cant take up to 0,5 mg per day every day if I need it. she seemed to not be so worried about taking it every day even on months. but I skip it too sometimes cause I know that its dangerous though. plus, sometimes I prefer to feel my emotions rather than calm them…
