You need regular blood tests for clozapine.
I haven’t tried it but many users here use it.

Yea been on clozapine since 7 years. Its good at low doses but pretty bad side effects at high doses.

I do my blood tests once a month. My pdoc says once in 2 months is also fine. When we started clozapine initially it was weekly blood tests. My wbc count has been normal since past 7 years

I suffered these side effects over the years:

  1. clozapine induced ocd
  2. drooling
  3. bed wetting at high doses
  4. postural hypotension
  5. myoclonic jerks
  6. Weight gain when combined with SSRI, i have lost most of the weight i gained over the years

I got bit by the low neutrophil count issue. My absolute neutrophils dipped under 1500 after a week of taking it at only 25 mg. Get your blood tested. It might save your life.

How much dose are you taking currently? Is it drooling is really disturbing?

I’m right now on 175mg, but it interacts with my SSRI and benzo which inhibits 2D6, so its prolly around 225mg(more or less) in my system.

Nah drooling only happens at night when im sleeping. If you find it disturbing, put small towel on your pillow and then sleep on it.

Hi schi, i have been on clozapine for about ten years now, i have found it really amazing and it has really been a game changer for me, it does have a lot of side effects such as sedation, weight gain and bloods taken every day at first then every week, then every 2 weeks and finaly every four weeks, The bloods are taken because there is a risk that the clozapine can lower white blood cells and you maybe at risk of infection that your body cant fight it! On a more positive note it has helped my paranoia and strange thinking my voices ect! anyway that is my experience of clozapine hope that you find it useful, regards, seanie

Clozapine is chemically related to loxapine, but loxapine doesn’t have the neutrophil issue so you don’t need blood draws. I’m on loxapine

It is the only drug that has helped me.

Closest drug to being a match and helped more than any other, but it messed with the white blood cell count and had to stop using it. Extremely dangerous stuff.

Oh. How long have u been taking?

I was on it for a short time. Had problems with both the white and red blood cells. Gained first ten plus pounds in a week. Caused constipation problems…could go for a month! Now I have to have surgery and take four laxatives a day. I also had my psychiatrist drop me because I didn’t want to take it. Some people have been able to have good results I haven’t.

Its a last resort drug when everything else fails just like ECT. It carries lot of side effects and require weekly blood tests as it can cause reduction in white blood cells which puts in risk to infection just like AIDS.

I think it was about 6 months to a year before it started causing problems
