How can I explain to my psych that I would like to try gabapentin for anxiety?
I used to take Now GABA, an OTC supplement and it really helped me.
I was prescribed clonazapam and lorazepam because my social and general anxiety is bad. I’m 17.

I ended up taking a couple too many and was honest, so he took me off of them ):
The problem is that lyrica is essentially the same thing, and it’s schedule 5. He’s foreign and I’m afraid that he’ll search it, see its for pain, lyrica is the same thing, and not prescribe it.
But I’m 3/4ths of the way to the max dose of Zoloft, and i feel it does very little compared to the GABA or benzodiazepines!
I need help explaining this medication. I’ll be so grateful if he prescribes it because the side effects are minimal compared to adding another AP or mood stabilizer

I told my doc I wanted it for headaches caused by my other meds… I didn’t realize it was as good as it is though…
just say gabapentin is usually prescribed off label for anxiety I don’t think u will have much problems its not like its an opiate pain medication there are a few nerve pain meds and anticonvulsants that are used off label for mental things
people have been over taking them to get high with my doc says they are trying to cut back on prescribing them… so you may meet some friction
I do see why your psychiatrist would not let you try something like Gabapentin or Pregablin for anxiety, they are not controlled drugs or addictive, but they can be abused as a street drug.
Your pdoc might actually be more inclined to prescribe lyrica than neurontin. Lyrica is licensed for anxiety, gabapentin is used off label for it.
I take lyrica for anxiety and it helps my really bad akathisia as well. Be warned you can’t stop this ■■■■ cold turkey. You kinda get dependent on it physically. Not sure a tolerance as I have never had to increase it but your body is screwed if you just stop it.

Gabapentin is not
Just saying, be open to other ideas your doctor may have regarding anxiety meds. You need something for anxiety, that is reasonable. He or she may have some other options though. Nothing wrong with making an informed suggestion though.
Man Id just ask and be honest Im on gabapentin and it is amazing for my anxiety and pain.
