How can a schizophrenic person become more intelligent?

Im sick of being dumb and making bad decisions. I want to get smarter. I want to be good at maths and english as well as book smart.

Talk things out with someone you trust before making big decisions.

Read. Read a lot. Then read some more.

I have trouble thinking clearly and sometimes rush to make decisions

its never too late to go back to school. you can go part-time, take free online classes through top universities. try self-paced self-taught. coursera is a good website so is udemy. also reading is a great way to learn.

You should talk to your psychiatrist about this. Confusion affects me too when I am under a lot of stress. But under low stress, I’m okay.

Might be your medication.

To save you some time and effort. I spent several years re-learning math to just before calculus. It was hard but I did it.
It hasnt enabled me to do anything more than i could before. Id say i learned discipline and persistence. Also problem solving ability improved.

Work on learning how to solve problems systematically, that will probably help you the most in real life.

Computers do the math for us these days.

I always keep trying to read more…my mom has a high school diploma but she has read heavily all her life and she is the smartest person I know…self help books might be some good books for you to fine tune your problems in reading those.

I cannot agree with @anon4362788 enough. Read, read, and read some more. A variety is preferable, but reading just about anything is beneficial. I attribute frequent reading for being able to hop into college after dropping out of 9th grade. And- I scored high enough on my ACTs to skip English 101!

If you are interested in math and such, you should be able to look up cliff notes online for algebra or whichever math appeals to you. Reviewing and practicing can be really helpful. I’d also recommend Sudoku, Minecraft, or similar games that get you thinking.

Best of luck to you.

I wish I was smart too. But you can read or watch videos on certain subjects to “flex” your brain. I do this all the time and it has helped. Learn and think about what you’re interested in.

Question and you do have the answer because you asked the question

To become inteligent is good, but feeling maturity is that requires the most for your satisfaction. Thanks.

Right now for me to get smarter I am learning the word cognitive.

As of right now I am struggling for my mind to function cognitively.

It just wants to function emotionally at the moment

Challenge yourself to do new things or things you find difficult every day. Don’t quit.

Must search for alternative circuitry wherein the mind/brain has potential functionality. Cannot find where there is permanent damage wherein cannot function in the cognitive deficits that accompanies SCZ.

Rote-rehearsal (repetition) can be a way to work through low working memory, to work through thought blocking/disorder.

To find that intelligence and to find the hidden intelligence that can be accessed even when relying on the subconscious/unconscious.

After a certain age It’s not so much a case of becoming ‘more intelligent’ but of maximising the intellectual potential you do have . We all have that ‘on the best of all possible days’ IQ beyond which we can’t go. We perform at that maximum level of ability infrequently. For a variety of reasons we can perform ,intelligence wise , significantly below that level. The aim should be to perform as near to and as frequently to our maximum intellectual capability as possible.

That requires having a good mindset. The kind of mindset @shutterbug has. I’m ashamed to say that for many years my mindset was very different to his. I was very much a ‘If the answer doesn’t come to me easily and quickly I’ll give up’ kind of person. After being rightly criticised for such an attitude I’ve worked towards having a better mindset. It’s very much a ‘work in progress’ still.

I have the negative attitude that states, “When I was a young woman, before sza hit, I was considered a fairly bright woman but not ever since then”.
