Horror movies triggering visual hallucinations?

Hello everyone! My psychiatrist says I might have schizophrenia but need further evaluation. I wanted to know did horror movies trigger hallucinations? Everytime I watched a horror movie I would hallucinate the demon before sleeping(I was 9 years old). Help? Is this linked to my possible illness or is it a normal phenomenon?

Hallucinations before falling asleep are normal, though I don’t know if you meant that

if you think you are schizophrenic you need to see a psychiatrist to see if he thinks you are…

Yeah I meant exactly that but I’m sure it’s not sleep paralysis because I could move. I even asked my dad if he could see it. And I was completely awake. I was so scared after watching the movie I couldn’t sleep! So I was staring at the ceiling and I saw a woman[the typical horror movie lady]. I closed my eyes and opened them again and she was gone. I was 8 or 9 at that time. Idk what’s happening

Welcome to the forum! Trust your psychiatrist through this process. It can be long and arduous when you want answers now and they aren’t coming quick enough, but answers will come soon enough.

Hypnagogia is basically hallucinating when transitioning from wakefulness to sleep. Anything is possible, but your psychiatrist is leaning towards psychosis for a reason. Have you considered writing down all the questions you have and taking them to your next appointment?

I remember as a child i once saw a gruesome decomposed dead body on the tv and after that for ages I couldn’t sleep without the light on. Traumatised me for a long time.

Then in my teens my mother showed me another gruesome image in a christian comic book and again I couldn’t sleep. Had hallucinations of it in the dark. Again traumatised me for a long time.

So nowadays I stay away from movies with anything gruesome in like dead bodies. They give me the creeps
