I’m going to see if I can just work part time and recieve disability to make up for the rest. The only problem is I’ve been working full time decently successfully for years, only recently have I been having trouble getting into work. What do you think my chances are? I hear it’s pretty hard, even with a lawyer backing you. I just contacted them today so we shall see
if sz is affecting your ability to work, then you won’t need a lawyer. lawyers cost money. I didn’t need one.
but if you get rejected, then hire one.
You think? I just want the process to be easy. I have really bad motivation problems and I’m not very good at problem solving so going through the process by myself seems really daunting
You need documentation. That’s all they have to go on. i.e. Therapy, hospital stays, Dr. notes etc. Unfortunately, you can’t just ‘say’ that you are too sick to work. I got my SSDI right away but I had lot’s of documentation ‘showing’ that I was too sick to work.
Good luck!!!
Yeah I have a lot of documentation…I mean just years of pdocs and a little bit of therapy. I know it’s not as easy as just saying I’m too sick, so that’s why I was hoping a lawyer could help me collect all my documents and submit it
You don’t have to collect evidence. Just tell social security where your records are and they will get them. I didn’t need a lawyer either. And I had pretty much always held a full time job up until the time that I applied.
That’s really good to know!
ya, that’s true. I just gave them names and addresses and they go get the documentation
Hmm that’s good to know. Maybe I’ll consider just applying on my own. Everytime I start the application i just get overwhelmed and give up though…I suck lol
You can also have someone help you apply over the phone. I started my app online and then finished with someone over the phone.
Contact the disability office. They will assign you a social worker who will help you through the process.
Even drive you to the department and help with paperwork etc. I couldn’t have done it without their help.
Omg thank you for the advice guys!
