My dr wants to increase my olanzapine to 40 or 45 mg because I fast “metabolize” this medicine. I do not trust my dr or any blood tests. 20 mg is the maximum dose I read. I already take 30 mg a day. That’s too much already.
Is anyone here on a very high dose of olanzapine, such as above 30 mg?
I was briefly put on 30 mg zyprexa a day and I laid in bed all day and night which made me have angry feelings and I quickly got off. Today I take 10 mg of zyprexa.
Plant 30 mgs Zyprexa is just a medium dose. In the Catie study they gave people up to 40 mgs of Zyprexs and besides of Clozapine those were the two meds they stayed the longest on. Some one I once knew was on 60 mgs of Zyprexa by mouth and me myself was on 30 mgs of Zyprexs 30 yesrs ago.
My mother who’s 77 years old takes 35 mgs of Zyprexs.
I wouldn’t downplay the dose. 30mg might be a medium dose depending on individual physics, but I think for most people 20mg is a heavy dose, that’s why it’s not often perscribed at higher doses.
I would be very sceptical about going above 30mg with side effects in mind like weight gain and diabetes. We have one member(lordheadspark) who is struggling with maybe permanent isomnia after staying on 40mg for many years.
Maybe get genetic testing on liver enzymes to see if you are a fast metaboliser or not, that can confirm the blood test. Also think about QTC and where you are at with that. Tardive dyskinesia/Extrapyramidal side effects are also something you need to self monitor.
How many medication have your tried? You could also augment with another AP as the alternative but that is probably just as risky of a solution. Not good options, I don’t think it’s a good long term solution.
dont do that
this doctor seem to me very unqualified
i think you should better leave him
the good who give a mixture of meds AP
this called meds cocktail
small doses from each med which is better than giving one med at high doses which most likely to give side effects
this a well known medical info
I took the 40 mg olanzapine last night. I woke up with what I thought was chest pain. I drank some water and was drowsy but it hurt. I fell back asleep though.
I saw my therapist in the morning and I asked her if I had had a heart attack. She told me I had some acid reflux. But I’ve never had that in my life and I doubt it. I’m worried it was a QTC reaction.
I am going to bed soon. I don’t know how much olanzapine to take and I’m scared of chest pain returning.
I also take aripiprazole and rexulti as well (I forgot to mention) for antipsychotic pills. I feel my med situation is out of control and I don’t know what to do. My family won’t let me change drs I don’t think.
Dear plant lady I didn’t know that you were on 3 antipsychotics…Your doctor acts unresponsibly by uppering your dose of meds if you are on 2 others. I understand your struggle with mental illness. I was desperate myself in the past…I wash on the largest dose of antipsychotics in recorded history namely 240 mgs geodon. 300 mgs Clopixol LAI every week. and 30 mgs Clopixol pills as needed
