Hi everyone I thought maybe we could discuss...,

Why do you personally think you have free will

Or do you believe that you do not have free will?

I personally think that I have free will but at the same time I sort of don’t because of the way my mind works. Ie. I could go to bed right now if I want. However, because of the past, I don’t want to.

It’s strange. Like there are alternate options, but because of my past, it is actually automatic that I only go for one specific option. Like a domino kind of effect. It makes me wonder why do those alternate options even exist in my mind? if it is not like I would go for them anyway.

Maybe it’s a constant trial and error test.

And the other question was why does ppl have free will

Free will or no free will is a religious concept.

If this gets religious at all ,it will be closed.

That doesn’t make sense to me. Just because you have a reason to choose a certain option doesnt mean that you arent making the choice yourself…Of course you have reasons for making a decision.

Edit: This is you CHOOSING it based on past experience.

If I told myself to ignore those reasons for making a choice, could I not make a different decision? For example, I have choson not to be snacking because I’m trying to keep my blood sugar low. I am now going to go choose to go have a snack despite my past experiences. Didn’t this not just prove that I can make whatever choices I want? How is this predetermined? Be back in a few…gonna grab a dorito or two :stuck_out_tongue: .

Edit: Back. I have now altered my predetermined destiny based on past experiences by making a dumb choice. Thanks so much for the blood sugar spike :stuck_out_tongue: :scream: .

Don’t know, why is it so difficult to make healthy choices in diet, addictions and lifestyle. Its in my interest to live a long happy life. It seems something else makes choices for me, manipulated by social media. Yes i got a free will to live healthy and exercise, but its difficult.

The thing about neuroplasticity is, yes. It is easier for your brain to stay in a pattern. But if you create a new pattern, and work at it, it becomes easier to stay in the new pattern. Our neural pathways inform our choices, but they don’t fully determine them. There is wiggle room, and you can reshape your brain. Medication helps with this. Practicing new behaviors helps.

Starting us the hardest part for me. The technical term is task initiation. It is an executive function.
