Hey everyone. I’m new here and was DX’d with SZ 6 years ago. I went through 5 years of denial and hoped that I did not have the condition and that my psychoses were simply caused by my cannabis habit and nothing else. Since then, I’ve been misdiagnosed with bipolar type 1 because I convinced my doctor that I had it. Bipolar was the only other DX that made sense and I use to stigmatise the label of SZ.
I recently went through 6 months of CBT and today, I am realising how much damage my three psychotic episodes have really done. It’s a hard pill to swallow.
My last episode involved the end of a romantic relationship where gaslighting was involved. I am sometimes question my own perceptions due to the nature of SZ, and when the person you love makes you further question your mind. It’s not easy to process. The friend I relied on for support post-breakup was also an offender, in that they made me question my perceptions. That sort of stress could be what contributed to the precipitation of my last episode. Delusions are false beliefs, and if the people around you convince you to believe false beliefs, then what?
I feel like I am rambling. Can any of you offer your thoughts? I should note that I do not have any positive symptoms when I am medicated.
I would say continue to take your meds.

Welcome @endofmywits
My ex used to try and convince me to believe false beliefs too.
Welcome to a little place we all call lively and fun @endofmywits … It is also a pleasure to meet you.
It was similar for me! Gaslighted by a girl before the breakdown and then those I relied on for support many were gaslighters!
There is light at the end of this man, I am confident.
For me, taking the meds and doing everything to regain normality has helped and I’m pretty functional with the help of meds

During an episode the hallucinations can be so intense and convincing that you might have seen and heard things (like your friend telling you weird stuff) that didn’t actually happen. Best bet: keep taking your meds and avoid stressful situations or other known triggers (like an old flame who left you for another) whenever possible.
