i used to drink like 4-5 shots or beers almost every weekend, never became an alcoholic, i dont even drink now it just doesnt appeal to me much

I honestly believe some people are genetically predisposed to alcoholism and if you have the gene any drinking at all is playing with fire. If you are experiencing problem drinking warning signs itā€™s best to quit now while you still can. Alcoholism is a terrible disease. You donā€™t want to get to that point, trust me. Quit while youā€™re ahead.

Iā€™m so sorry honey. At least youā€™re facing it and admitting it. They say thatā€™s the first step to recovery. I support you if you decide to quit.

Thing is i dont really want to stop. Like tomorrow i got some friends coming over and im definately gonna end up drinking sigh

It is possible to develop alcoholism by drinking beer alone as it does contain alcohol. You would need to meet very specific criteria for an alcoholism or alcohol dependency diagnosis. If you are concerned even a little, please speak with a professional like your gp. Alcohol dependency is a serious health concern that is not diagnosable online.
TLDR: Yes it is very possible. Speak with a dr to see if its true for you in particular.

Iā€™ve not touched drugs in 6 years, alcohol in almost 2.

When I get voices bad, Iā€™ve a bad habit of getting a bottle of alcohol and drinking it as fast as I can to knock myself out to the world.

I admit Iā€™ve slipped, but I have to keep trying, coping better than I did.

For me that means not a drop, even the flavor of alcohol.

Iā€™m catching up on the rest of the replies now. Iā€™m glad youā€™ve made this realization. Thats a big deal man. Do you have a medical doctor or psych professional you can talk to about this?

I have a psychiatrist. But theres always so much other stuff going on i never get to mention the alcohol.

Thing is, i think i might be an alcoholic as i cant stop drinking. Especially in public as it makes me more confident.

Oh well i think i must mention it to pdoc !!

Hey walla, I donā€™t know how much this helps, if itā€™s around your area, or if there are other programs that are similar. But itā€™s a good place to start, go to a meeting and just see how you feel about their message of sobriety.

Uh, a strong sign of alcoholism. So is binge drinking. If youā€™re also a blackout drinker thereā€™s a serious, serious chance youā€™re an alcoholic.
