Have you saved a life?

So, have you? I mean directly saved a life, one of those real hero moments.

I saved my mom’s life in the summer of 2005. She took me out to lunch. I didn’t realize she was choking at first, not until she started panicking, got so wild eyed, got up out of the booth, freaking out but couldn’t really make a sound. I got up, went around behind her and performed the Heimlich maneuver.

Her first instinct when she started choking was to take a drink of water. So the first time I did the Heimlich, water shot out all over the table, but she still wasn’t breathing, so I did it again. I didn’t see the food come out, but I heard her gasp. After we sat back down I was shaking and couldn’t eat the rest of my food.

She died from breast cancer in the fall of the following year, but I’d like to think I helped her get that extra 1+ years. I suppose if I hadn’t done it someone else would have, and thankfully I didn’t have to do anything too intense like an emergency tracheotomy.

That’s a hero moment for me. Been 20 years, and I remember it like it happened yesterday.

I saved two boys in different situations…the one boy was dangling off a railing to a three story drop just to do it but I bet he would have found that he didn’t have the strength to get back up after dangling a long time…anyways…I didn’t wait …I grabbed him by the arms ( he was light only about a five year old), and lifted him over the railing and yelled at him to never do it again…probably not the best thing to do but I was upset…he got on his bike and rode off..

another boy was kidnapped by my gf’s ex husband on a visitation escape…he took the boy to Arizona and she couldn’t afford to pay her lawyer fees to recatch the boy using the police…I got a loan and paid the thousand bucks and got the boy back…he could have died…the ex husband was bad news.

I’ve made a few attempts at it. Unfortunately out of hospital CPR success rates are only like 12%.

Outside of my EMT days I’ve helped people in a bad car accident, but I can’t say I directly saved their lives.

I’ve never saved a human. I saved a dogs life when he jumped through a railing and into a swamp and I jumped over and pulled him out. Poor guy was freezing and exhausted but otherwise alright.

Yes, I saved my ex MILs life.
She suffered cardiac arrest at the dinner table.
I performed CPR and resuscitated life into her.
Best thing I’ve ever done my whole life.
My wife’s family threw a party for me afterwards.
They treated me like a hero

I guess the only ways I would have tried to save somebody’s life would be trying to talk people out of suicide. Try to show them any support I can. Try to see their situation as they see it and their reasoning and feelings and help them as much as I can.

I’m impressed by how well you handled it and I’m very sorry you lost her so long ago.

It’s okay. I was 26 and in my third semester of grad school when she passed, fell apart when it happened. I can talk about it and everything now, though, been a long time.

Had her 12 years .

I survived ovarian cancer at same time.

Paid for her agistment , food , farrier , teeth filed , vaccinations , etc

Im on disability pension so most of my money went on paying for her upkeep.

Even paid for her to have equine acupuncture snd massage few times.

Dont know what happened .

She seemed like she hated me sometimes and all i ever did was love her.

I saved a friend from drowning in the sea

He got knocked off his kayak by big waves

His head was below water as he did not have a life jacket but a buoyancy aid

I managed to get close and jabbed his body with my paddle

He was able to hang on to the front of my kayak

We drifted back to the shore and ended up about a mile further down the beach

When we got on the beach the coastguard helicopter circled us and I held up my paddle to signal we had got back on land

A woman on the beach saw us in trouble and my friends kayak had washed ashore near by

I did not think I could turn the kayak safely facing towards land so we drifted backwards with him holding on

When we got to land he had temperature issues because he was in the water for so long

Had to force him to get up and move to warm up

Maybe. Me and my little sister went swimming in Lanzarote, the waves were big. I’m a good swimmer, she is not. The undercurrent took us farther and farther from the coast and was too strong to swim directly back. My sister panicked, i took her and swam across the beach instead of directly, when we came a hundred of meters further along the coast, the current was less strong, she grabbed me by the neck and we swam back to the coast. There we saw the paramedics taking care of two dead finnish tourists who didn’t make it. It was the first corpse I saw in real life.

I was a med/surg and general float nurse for several years so, I saved quite a few lives. It’s impossible to say or know exactly how many; although, I’m sure it was a “lot”.
