It’s scary @Sooner88 isn’t it. Because I know I can’t work full time to support myself and I don’t get a lot from disability.
No, I have never been homeless. But I ran away from home for few times.
i almost became homeless the hospital was going to kick me to the street
I was homeless once when I left my abusive husband. My six year old son and I went to live at a women’s shelter for a month so I could get my head on straight. They saved my life.
I was homeless as a baby, my parents were really young and didn’t have money or family to rely on for support.
I’m fortunate enough to own my home as an adult.
Before I had my first daughter there was a big fight between my family. My mom threw my dad and two sisters out, who stayed in stair wells of apartment buildings before finding a friend to give them a place to stay in order to get back on their feet. I wasn’t kicked out because I was pregnant. And honestly I’ve just never really been a part of all the fighting in my family.
I lived in a tent for a couple of weeks. I also lived in a 9x6 caravan for a few weeks. I’ve not slept on the streets though.
I was sleeping rough for a couple of months when i left my last town - At one time i was sleeping between YHA Hostels and paying for it outta my ESA then, till they found out i was street homeless and banned me. I hassled the council but wouldnt help me then on medical grounds cos i wasnt properly diagnosed then. I lost 4 stone - and most of my belongings cos they was nicked. I was psychotic - delusional and starving for 3 months. I actually believe its because i used to work for the local council that they took pity on me and housed me. That was 2015 - and i havent look back. But the YHA (https://www.yha.org.uk/) are ruthless uncaring bastards, and i would not piss on them if they were on fire.
I worry about the governement changing benefits things that scares me. They are good right now but what about the future.
You never know. You can only HOPE
i was never ho,eless, but i have stayed in a homeless hsotel in cork and i have slept rough in london about 5 times…it was all because voices told me to do so
@firemonkey…was it warm ans safe to sleep in a tent…what made you sleep that way…
It was early summer time so not that cold. We slept that way as we had nowhere else to live.
where abouts did you pitch the tent …was it a park…was it safe…i used to think i could do it but would fear scumbags coming along and causing problems
It’s hard to recall after 35 years where we pitched it. I suppose on a clear grassy area.
