I lived out of my car for a few months but I never been truly homeless. because I don’t like to spend money on lodging I’ve slept out on the streets downtown in many U.S cities a night or two, but that’s as close as I’ve been to homelessness.
woke up one morning and went to a soup kitchen in Lexington KY of all places. We had eggs and a pastor led a bible study while we there
No, I have the luxury of having my family; being homeless is my absolute worst fear
It’s the reason I try to work hard studying so I can get a degree and have a stable job.
I was kind of homeless. I slept in the woods a few times. I was kicked out or ran away (I don’t remember) and I was gone for so long that my Dad had my friend’s Dad send him a message when/if I showed up, which I did. When my Dad got there he asked when I was coming home. I told him I didn’t need to because I found a job with some guy who just asked me if I wanted one, and he let me sleep in his basement. Guy was a crack head though so it was strange having to talk to him, being unmedicated at the time, because I was homeless.
that sounds kind of dangerous. I’ve slept in the woods too, when I was on long distance hikes. I’ve learned that if you stop and pay for lodging cops won’t question you when your hiking along the highways but if you go through their territory and sleep out in the elements your just asking to be picked up.
I lived out at the campground in a tent when I moved here, I was working right away, but had to save for a place, It was kinda fun, people coming and going, got a apartment as soon as it started to get cold out
It was weird at first because nobody just goes up to you and say “hey you want a job” especially if you are homeless. I was almost ready to fight and run away when we went behind the house then I realized nobody was there so it was safe to work and this guy wasn’t bullshitting me.
I couldn’t imagine being out in the cold. I’d probably move to san diego or phoenix or something during the winter. when I was in san diego there were soo many homeless people
I couldn’t shower everyday, I tried to keep myself clean though. People definitely could tell I was homeless especially with pillows and blankets in my car…and sleeping in random parking lots during the day. I didn’t feel safe sleeping at night…I was off medicine almost all of last year and it got pretty bad…
yeah in my couple nights out there were many outreach people. but back then i just thought they wanted to identify me and book me for jail. i didn’t trust them at all
Yes I have been homeless. I have had kind hearted people to take me into their homes and helped me become who I am today. I am forever thankful for them.
