Have any of you been homeless?

how come you’re revisiting memories of homelessness @Air, are you at risk of homelessness now with the stress of the xmas season?

I’ve always maintained my housing, no matter how psychotic & alcoholic I am. I think it’s because I worked as a social worker with homeless folk & saw how dangerous it was for them. Emergency accommodation my employer provided was high risk.

No risk of homelessness currently. Now with support hopefully it never happens again

oh that’s good news @Air. Glad your support & family sounds solid. not sure why you’re revisiting memories of homelessness…is something worrying you or are you a bit bored?

Just been thinking about my past a lot and curious to other’s experiences

I was homeless on and off for a few months at a time pretty much throughout my 20s. I was usually able to find places to sleep, and barring that, I had my car. I have friends all over the world thanks to my system of odd favors in exchange for shelter. I met some real cool people and got lucky enough to never find myself in a dangerous situation.

I left home when I was 15. I usually found a warm bed or couch but every once in awhile it was a bathroom at a park or an all nighter even when I wasn’t on drugs just to stay safe. I’m glad my kids never had to experience anything like this, it was pretty scary at times and I was seriously hurt at one point due to my decision of trying to find a place to stay that wasn’t safe.

I was turned out of my home for nearly a year, right after I received my disability backpay. I was too psychotic to figure out I could rent a room so I ended up blowing a huge amount of money on hotels.

Ya I lived in my car and drove all up and down the west coast and southwest, stayed with friends at first, was changing meds but then lost my sanity (found it later), stayed with girlfriend til she kicked me out, family did too bc I kept thinking people were possessed. Eventually lived in my car, spent all my money on beer and smokes, car got broken into, dropped it off at moms house and lived on the streets for the summer til I went to jail. 2018 was not a kind year to my brain and body.

I was homeless a few times but it was my own doing and once I slept at strangers place etc other time I was kicked out of my apartment and had to live at a rehabilitation centre and then my boyfriends parents and then I had a apartment but was delusional so I chose to live in my car a few weeks and turned the electricity off in my apartment but I got back home and was later hospitalised.

My x boyfriend lived in a swag with his dog even in cold.it was him his motorbike and dog and the dog rode the bike with him.

My other x boyfriend was homeless because he refused to live with his parents.
He lived in a tiny room on a boat that was a homeless shelter.they got left over food from restaurants.he said the food was great but the tiny room was awful and there was violence and lots of noise .

I hope I don’t go homeless again.
I’m living in my former stepmoms apartment.
She is amazing to me and I love my sacred neigh more than any one else but I love her most too.
My horse is number one though.
I think I love her more than my parents.:open_mouth::grin:

I adore my parents but they are complicated and a handful.

I would probably been homeless if I havent met my wife. She keeps me on track.

Never been homeless (thank goodness), but I was thinking about running away to Maine last December. That would have been tough, what with no money, and nowhere to stay. Glad I didnt.

I was homeless at 16. My foster parents kicked me out again and social services put me up in a very cheap/nasty hotel for 3 weeks until my foster parents thought I’d learned my lesson.

Jesus, social services should have rehomed you immediately

Sounds really rough. Sorry you went through that. When I was homeless I had older men try to get me in their cars. I was pretty thin and very good looking at that point in my life. Thank god for paranoia as I trusted no one when I was on the street.

Haven’t been literally homeless, but I’ve slept in abandoned/construction houses, broke into cars/school buses, stairwells, closed malls etc.

Like, I’ve never slept on the street before.
