Has psychiatry changed in the last ten years?

I was expressing my concerns to my social worker about being locked up. And she said psychiatry has changed in the last ten years since I was hospitalized. Has anyone been to the hospital lately. Do they work with you now or just silently asses you and give you meds regardless of the side effects? Both Canadian and American opinions would be nice.

haha, your missing an “s” there buddy.

idk, haven’t been to a psych ward in years.

i do know one on one out patient has finally improved. CBT and it’s counterpart DBT are finally being used more and effectively.

bump for others to give their experience.

Dude a guy got a nobel peace prize for transorbital lobotomies, for which he practiced on grapefruits. It ruined so many people’s lives and it was applauded less than one hundred years ago.

I always thought that the advent of the internet would catch us up and there’d be no more room for improvement. I’m probably wrong. Some of these wards in my area could be better. I’m telling you, some are sanctuaries with great staff and some are nightmares. My results were mixed, one hospital just shot me with a new med and sent me home with side effects, while another checked with me and maintained a dialogue and let me help decide elements of my treatment.

I can only hope that we’ll be looking back at today’s treatments as primitive in 25 or 30 years. Not sure how much it’s changed in the last 10… for me it really hasn’t just a few more APs on the market than back then. I’m probably missing something broader though.

I don’t understand. What s am I missing

asses is like commenting on how a group of people who treated you badly are a bunch of a**es.

assess is to determine something about someone, evaluate them.

it’s a typo and not a big deal, i was making a small joke is all.
