Haldol Induced Parkinsonism

Man, lately I’ve been getting parkinson symptoms like crazy. It started with tremors and its been progressing for months. Two days ago my whole body was in tremors for no reason. Pdoc said haldol can do this shiz, but I guess I never really cared. But now, yeah, now I care. Their not just little tremors either, they are pretty worse. Any advice maybe?

See your doctor at once if it is getting out of control. You want to make sure it doesn’t become TD.

I agree with @shutterbug .

If you can drop your AP dosis that will help a great deal.

Yes being on the lowest possible dose you can use, might help. Meds with lower dopamine antagonism might be weaker but safer, e.g. Seroquel. Clozaril has lower dopamine blockage as well. Good luck.

I think caplyta has the least dopamine blockage. So id recommend switching to that.

Actually, caplyta is my other antipsychotic I take, which does wonders for my negative symptoms. Like, I can work a full time job now

I have Haldol prn, but sometimes if I take 10 mg, it makes my legs feel like kicking and cramping. It’s like right on the edge of akathisia but not quite there. I hate that feeling so I don’t take it often. The clozapine makes me drool all over my pillow at night, even when I use the atropine drops to dry myself up.

@John_Raven how are you cognitively doing? Also why are you taking 2 antipsychotics

I’ve been better cognitively, but I’m obviously still able to work, so its not to that point yet.

I’m taking two antipsychotics because the caplyta didn’t do enough for the positive symptoms, so I had to find another med for it that wouldn’t cause weight gain.

I’m on a Conventional too. But if you experience those kinds of side effects then Haldol is unsafe for you and you need to substitute the Haldol with something else.
