i’ve long believed that schizophrenia could have a very simple cause. My pet subject interest is evolutionary biology and I always felt that , the modal of a simple process causing complexity , fit schizophrenia as a disease perfectly.
There is some good news , the possibility of schizophrenia being linked to one gene is growing. Why is this good news? It means that the chances of an effective , highly targeted treatment improves immeasurably based on this research , it also improves the chances of preventing and stopping the disease.

Good news! I would have loved for the article to be more specific though. For it seems that schizophrenia is an umbrella term that covers cases with highly differentiated symptoms. The article suggests that psychosis, agitation and memory-problems constitute something like the core of schizophrenia at the level of symptoms, with the gene in question being responsible for them at the mechanistic level. I doubt whether there is consensus on whether these three symptoms, though common, constitute the experiential core of schizophrenia - if any do. This discovery can be used to differentiate between subtypes the other way around though, from the bottom up as it were.
I also read somewhere about some good news of some process in the brain discovered that doesn’t properly gage in the sz mind so that the mind gets flooded so to speak with data it cannot process. this intrigues me because my own form of sz identifies with it. judy
Schizophrenia is highly variable in its presentation and development because of the complexity of brain development , how neurons communicate (excitatory vs inhibatary) , as well as the chemical underpinnings for dendrite/synapse activity. Of course everyone’s symptoms will be different , that’s a given , but if this can be stopped at its source then happy days , or at least trace its mechanism of action as the disease progresses
any research is good research, hope it leads to better treatments, I’m doing well after feeling like crap with the sarcosine, pregnanolone and SAMe plus meds, SSRI’s don’t suit me these supplements are great
