Got up at 1:46 AM to go to work then had to be back by 9 am this morning

I am on call this week. I was called into work at 1:46 AM for a leak that should have been fixed. Fifth leak this week. As soon as I got up it started raining. Had to get out of bed, drive 30 minutes to work to suck up some water and climb a ladder to cut a hole in the ceiling til about 4:26AM :upside_down_face:. I came back at 9 AM worked til 2 then they called me right when I got home and said that the same man who I turned his heat on wanted his heat off. I’m glad I set a boundary and told him it was not an emergency because I did not go back. Thinking about leaving.

You do work that seems to be pretty important; you must make good money.

$20/hr, not as much as my peers I think they make 35/hr. They told me when I had first negotiated my salary that I didn’t have enough experience to ask for as much as I was asking for even though nobody really knows what they’re doing were all winging it. Somehow though, they think I can do everything. I am proud of myself though. I would’ve quit by now or rushed through it. Maintenance is critical thinking you’re supposed to rule out the most common problem first. Like going to the breaker to see if a switch tripped for an outlet instead of changing the whole outlet out. I used to make it harder than it was. It’s not that hard. I thought I was going to mess up painting this wall though. I did a pretty good job. Just super anxious all the time.

I had an on call job, I loved it but it wasn’t safe for me to drive after I took my nighttime meds so I had to move to a different department.

What department did you end up moving to? My director keeps hinting at a facilities administrative position for me but I’m too afraid to ask.

Aren’t you female? Companies are notorious for paying women significantly less than men. And now they’re trying to push you into administrative work?! Ugh!

That looks good, you have talent for this kind of work.

Yes. Facilities admin coordinators make 75,000 a year. That’s why I considered it. I don’t make 75,000 now. I was going to negotiate. But I’m not sure if it was a slight when he asked me.

Thank you. I just get anxious every time there’s a problem I don’t know how to solve.

Oh…75,000?!?! That would be great!!! Maybe it’s worth it after all!

@lilyofthevalley MaybelilyoMaybe lol I’m not sure if he’s serious though. My director said something strange to me. That he was going to fire my supervisor and hire me on as an administrator. Then when I told him that was wrong, he said he was just joking. Sometimes working with a group of men, not all men, is as strange as you say.
