I was wondering if any of you guys take Lamictal. I got prescribed for it yesterday after a 3-day severe mood swing spell and since I’ve just started taking it, I obviously haven’t seen many changes. Has it helped any of you?
I am diagnosed schizoaffective, bipolar type, and I used to take it for my mood symptoms. I cannot remember why I stopped taking it but I remember it worked for me for a while. I wouldn’t expect any changes if you started taking it yesterday. I would give it some more time to take effect. Best wishes!
I’m glad to hear that it worked well for you! I know that it’s worked well for many people, but I’m rather curious about peoples’ experiences with it.
I take Lamictal and its been very helpful. Also, I haven’t noticed any side effects.
I started on 100 mg at night for a week, then 100 mg in the morning and 100 mg at night, then 150 mg in the morning and 150 mg at night. This has to be done to help prevent an allergic reaction commonly called the “Lamictal Rash.” If you do get a rash you should inform your psychiatrist immediately.
I’m on it. It helps me. Not sure exactly how except I start to feel crazy within 2 hours of missing it., accidentally taking late. It helps me feel stable in my body, mind. It gets rid of noise in my mind and calms it… sorry best way to describe. I make sure i take every dose bc it helps. No side effects for me either.
Doc gave me this to prevent kindling. It has neuro protective effects. The only problem is that it does nothing for psychosis but does help if you’re taking an antidepressant by cutting down on mood cycling and preventing mania and depression. It is an antidepressant but it doesn’t actually make you feel good like an ssri does. It just lifts your mood through an alternate channel. I have side wreck from it. Cognitive side effects like word finding difficulties.
I would like to come off it but my doc swears I need it. Oh well.
It helps The restlessness and shakiness that I get from Latuda , it completely takes it away.
It takes time and isn’t an instant fix. They won’t prescribe me that one cos I get very mixed episodes
I liked your post because it explained about the drug. For clarity I wasn’t liking the fact that you want off of it and that you have side effects. That sucks.
My experience has been rocky. After a while my moods leveled out. But then about 8 months later I started another depressive episode. I eventually said I wasn’t going to take it anymore and quit for about 2 weeks. The pdoc convinced me to try it again with a new AP. Apparently if you stop Lamictal for more than 4 days, you have to start all over again at a low dose because if you start back up again at a high dose you risk Stevens-Johnson Syn. So that sucked, having to work my way back up to a higher dose.
Cool
What ways does it protect?
It stops mood cycling if that is an issue for you.
Apparently mood cycling gets worse and worse and the condition deteriorates. It’s called "kindling"
I’m not a dr but my dr told me that this is why she wants me on it.
I wanted to type this a few minutes ago but I was watching an urbex video and forgot to write a reply on the thread.
But thank you guys for giving me your insight about the drug. It makes me more hopeful that it will work for me because my mood swings have been crazy lately.
I was on Lamictal and couldn’t tolerate more than 25mg.
It made me Manic and kept me anxious and wired.
It’s a pretty safe mood stabilizer so good luck with it.
