Got a B in my Intro to Autism class

It would have been an A had I finished the last assignment. I was busy with work and wasn’t able to get it done.

Overall I’m glad I took the class. My research paper was about how certain therapies for people with autism can actually be detrimental to their health and wellbeing. The wellbeing of people with autism was a major theme of the course.

My next class starts on January 6. It’s called Gender, Sexuality and Race in Popular Culture.

When I was in uni all the humanities subjects were looked at through the lens of race, class and gender. That was in Canada though. Gender and sexuality would be considered redundant in the way they were looking at it, for sexuality is part of a person’s gender, as I understand it. Class was used to bring in marxist sociological analysis usually, so maybe that’s why it doesn’t include class in the perspectives on popular culture.

Can you expand on this a bit? I have some ideas about stuff that doesn’t help, but am curious to know what you came up with.

I wrote about applied behavioral analysis therapies (ABA) that seek to eliminate or reduce autistic behaviors so that kids appear more normal and fit in better.

Ooooooh. That’s one of those “lead a horse to water” things. People can only learn that when they decide for themselves.
