Good vs evil

I told my nurse that i was trying to work out the origins of good and evil and he said it was not a good idea, i thought it would be good to try and understand it a bit better,

what do you think?

I think good and evil are two sides of the same coin. I believe in duality and that people are both good and evil. That’s held as a generic idea but people don’t really think about what that means.

Here are some fun questions I ask myself about it.

  1. If someone outwardly only does “good” things, but secretly only do it for personal benefit and are generally not nice on the inside, does this make them a good or a bad person? Can a person be considered a bad person if they haven’t done anything wrong? If you consider them a good person, does this mean morality is solely based on actions and has nothing to do with internal character?

  2. Who is the better person, a person who has never had the desire to do evil and so never commits evil acts due to this, or a person who faces strong desire to commit evil acts but battles this desire and does not give in?

If you think in a circular manner, good and evil cancel each other out as there is a dark side to every moon. But if you walk very carefully putting one foot in front of the other, you can make real progress.

A good book to read is The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by William Shirer if you’d like to look into good and evil.

What I know of goodness is mostly by contrast with what I know of darkness. I know the latter is a very real thing, like a presence. I feel it sometimes when playing evil music, esp with other people. Bad attracts bad, good, good. George Harrison sang a song, “Beware of Darkness.” Haven’t heard it in a long time. Might be worth another listen… I tend to think that careless self-interest and abuse of other people are evil, while kindness and other eternal verities, esp courage in the face of evil, are good. It’s like the Serenity Prayer: courage and wisdom – plus a truckload of strength… and love.

What is Good or evil was usually perceived from the biased angles. It can be very personal view, also can be viewed from a nation, a human race. What is good or evil may not be the same to other people or other race. So to work out the common good or evil is very important, however these common good or evil might be called the rules.

When you are studying what is good or evil you must bear this in mind:One man’s meat is another man’s poison.

Intent matters to some extent, but actions seem to have more weight to them, so if you have someone who does good all their life and has a secret loathing for those he’s helping, that person should be regarded higher than someone who doesn’t actually help anyone but thinks highly of others, on paper.

There is no good and evil… human constructs like this often divide and present lines in the sand… all you have to do is not be a dick… stay atleast kind of informed… and dont be a dick… I dont need to label things in such certainties… only sith deal in certainties… nothing is as simple as good and evil…

I think most of us aren’t confronted with the choice between good and evil as much as we think. People commute from the suburbs and work at their jobs. People do this so they can have a family and buy material possessions. This says nothing about the good or evil in people. We behave in a “good” manner so we can have the rewards of being a responsible human being. The religious say that without the fear of God people have no reason to be moral. People do to have good reasons to be moral without the fear of God. They’re moral due to fear of the local sheriff. We don’t do evil things because we are likely to be punished for them. People who do rotten things usually end up answering to the district attorney for them. People can get away with some evil, but most of them eventually get caught. Once they decide to go down the path of rotten behavior it is very hard for them to get off this path, and they end up paying for it. I believe people are neither as good or as bad as they think they are.

Do we all agree that there is good and evil in the world though?

Good and bad seem to be opposites, they say the goodness is like light shining through the darkness and that the darkness always submits to the light, do you think evil always submits to good in the same way?

Its strange but i really want to work out the differences between good and evil and who is responsible for them, who is in charge, is it man? or other forces acting their will on us somehow,

Is there a plan for us that we don’t know about and what does that mean to us, why does bad things happen, is mankind inherently evil by nature?

I’m going to contradict my previous post. Humanity is capable of both great good and great evil. As for the evil, there have been at least six times in the twentieth century that over a million people have been murdered. The Turks killed a million Armenians, Joseph Stalin killed millions of Russians, the Japanese murdered ten million in their rampage through the orient, Pol Pot killed at least a million of his countrymen, the Chinese killed a million Tibetans, and we all know what Hitler did. On the other hand, there have been scientists who labored away in some lonely lab developing vaccinations against the deadly diseases that have plagued humanity. When I think of both good and evil being present in one person, I think of a man named Fritz Haber. This guy discovered a cheap way to derive cheap nitrates. This enabled humanity to make ammonium nitrate fertilizer, which enabled the earth to support two billion more people. The ability to get cheap nitrates also enabled Germany to stay in World War I much longer. Also, Fritz was the guy who came up with the idea of chemical warfare. Also, he developed Zyklon B, the agent the Nazis used to murder Jews on a massive scale. He was trying to develop an agricultural pesticide.

I think I’m through with women…oh now I want to talk about good and evil…smh why don’t you go ahead and get yourself flagged by really saying what you are thinking about @asgoodasitgets

With good and evil it’s all about perspective.

If someone steals from a store most people’s first reaction is that it’s bad.

but if someone stole so they could feed their family it definitely seems less bad because they are at least doing it for a good reason.

So as far as anything being pure good or pure evil no such thing exists

That being said the closest thing to pure good is love whether it be familial, platonic, romantic or other

And pure evils closest relative is hate. Baseless hate. Doing things just to spite others. Hurting each other.

And that’s just my view though.

If you follow call of duty, its all just might = right. The world is just a giant tinder box… and i fear that may be right
