Good talk with pdoc

She emailed me back to that email I told her about trust and not letting others tell me what I am experiencing and she said she was not offended at all and that she was just following guidelines that say not to switch medications before they’ve reached their full therapeutic dosage. So that’s good. Also I found information from two different sources stating that Zoloft slows down the metabolizing of Abilify, creating more of it in the bloodstream and leading to increased side effects and possible toxicity. One textbook stated “Use this combination with caution if at all.”

So hopefully I am expanding her knowledge as well. (And I hope I am not sounding too arrogant! I just believe if there is an interaction between the 2 that she was not aware of I can make her aware of it and spare anyone else from being prescribed the same combo)

its good to talk about these things, learn from each other in order to hopefully feel better

The docs don’t recognize interactions all that well. I have been prescribed meds that mess with QT interval several times when it is a fact that 120mg of Geodon already messes with the QT interval.

QT interval is your heart beat. That’s deadly!

I think the docs don’t like it but it makes their job easier when the patient remembers a side effect and they don’t. I trust medical people though, my grandfather was a surgeon and I am a Psy D student which is like medical school but for clinical psychology. I wish I could have been a medical doc, but I don’t trust myself with the risk of an accident while operating- that and psychotherapy is just talk, where a wrong word isn’t usually life or death, but at times it is. Surgery is always life or death.

Informed consumers seem to fare well.

I get an ecg (think is called ekg in us) every year. Am slightly concerned about qt interval as my dad has cardiomyopathy. I have to get an echo scan every few years to screen for that.
