I’ve been on a relatively low dose of Geodon for years now. Really works for me. Wonder drug. Problem is, it can occasionally interfere with heart rhythm, which is a problem I’m now having. 99.99% certain it’s being caused by a congenital heart defect that I was born with, and that has been making its presence somewhat increasingly known as I age. The med change is being done as a precaution so that the Geodon won’t make things worse. I’m already taking blood thinners as a prophylactic as there is fear my heart’s shenanigans will lead to it throwing blood clots into my system.
I’ve never felt this good mentally or been this stable, and the truth is that most of the other meds I’ve tried have not even come close to this level of effectiveness. To say I’m distraught is an understatement. Guess I’ll have to see what the coming month brings and what the new head med will be.
Its really hard when a med works for you and yet it has a bothersome side effect. It’s the same with me and amisulpride - it works like a bomb for my symptoms but it has an irritating side effect which bothers me, so I am contemplating giving it up and trying something else, not that I want to, because it works so well.
Good luck with your situation!
Yes I have heard of Geodon messing with heart rhythm - this is one of the reasons why I did not consider it.
I am sure that you will find a good med that does not have a lot of metabolic - cardiac side effects - Latuda and Abilify usually make good choices.
Even though Risperdal has helped me mentally, it is not the greatest drug if you have diabetes like I do - I may have to switch to another more metabolic friendlier drug, in the meantime my pdoc is lowering the dose slowly to see if this makes a difference when it comes to my physical health - good luck with everything @shutterbug
