Good news, my psychiatrist reduced my dosage from 10mg Abilify to 5mg

I guess there is the psychiatric nurses from the home based crisis team, but I have been discharged. And there is my GP. Even in the depths of psychosis, I am safe and moral so its ok…

I’ve always found your posts so honest

Thanks. I am honest, even about the crazy…

Well, considering your recent post history on the forum, I have to ask—are you really being completely honest with your pdoc about your symptoms?

I’m honest about psychosis. I keep my mood to myself. I don’t want anymore SSRIs. I have been there, done that, and I regret it.

I hope it works out. Keep posting and we’ll tell you if we think you’re going off the rails.

It’s worth a try, but understand this is a disease of relapses for 80-90% of the people who have it. So you’re betting against the odds if you think it can’t happen.

But who knows, you could be in that lucky 10-20% but I think you’re making a mistake in not treating the depression because that could lead to isolation and poor self care which could lead to you becoming psychotic again.

so it just makes an antidepressant more potient?

Yes. That’s all 5mg does.

Well, this is the area where you currently seem to be struggling. There are effective treatments for depression and anxiety, such as meds and/or therapy.

That’s ok. Realistically noone can really help. I will just keep it to myself and quietly get through life, even if perhaps I do not fulfill my potential…

@Diana_Ross7, have you ever considered neurofeedback therapy for depression? I use it to treat my OCD because antidepressants react badly with my brain. I have been doing it for eleven years, and I love it. It can get expensive, but some practitioners offer scholarships, or let you pay on a sliding scale.

I am also going to voice my concerns that you’re only on 5 mg of abilify, but I do understand that this is something everyone has to learn for themselves at some point. I went off my meds once, too. It ended horribly, but I had to know for myself. Just be careful. I used to be stable on just 40 mg of geodon, but after quitting, I now need 80 mg to get the same effect. It is common for antipsychotics to be less effective the second time around.

I haven’t started on 5mg yet. But my psychiatrist seemed very enthusiastic…
