Going to try Vraylar

Does anyone have experience with Vraylar? I took it for a couple months back in 2019 but I don’t remember why I had to stop it. Now we are going down on my Loxapine and replacing it slowly with Vraylar. Is it quite activating? Or is it more sedating? Tell me your experiences!

It’s supposed to be related to rexulti and abilify. Rexulti makes me feel depressed.

For the most part, Vraylar is extremely activating
I was on it for like a month in 2016
It made me super manic and I had to be hospitalized for one month

But this was my experience with it
As you know, everyone reacts differently to these meds

Let me know how it goes please. I’m gonna be switching to vraylar too. I’ve read a lot of positive reviews about it. More energy and less side effects is what I remember reading

My psychiatrist told me to try taking it at night first and if it keeps me awake to switch to morning. We are starting at 1.5mg for now then will titrate up as I get my Loxapine lower. I’m so scared. I’ve been on Loxapine for over 4 years now. I have never successfully come off of it. Every time I get off Loxapine I get hospitalized about a month later getting put right back on it. I want this time to work out since my TD is causing so many issues.

Best of luck with it @Hanna_Foxx

Good luck with the vraylar. I’m on 1.5mg and olanzapine 20mg.

I’m sorry you have TD. It sucks!

Vraylar is very activating. I feel as if I’m on stimulants.

Vraylar gives me heartburn, so perhaps you’ll need meds for that. It can also cause irritability.

Ahh thank you for the input @Speedy yes the TD is horrible, I also got dystonia from the Loxapine. My hand curls up into a stuck position and it’s so hard to type for my job.

I didn’t have much luck with Vraylar, but my friend who had TD with Latuda switched to Vraylar and he’s doing much better mentally and physically. His TD stopped when he switched to the Vraylar.

I know of some1 who is switching to vraylar in the hopes that it helps against tremors.

This is so inspiring to hear! I hate TD and Dystonia I am hoping to get rid of it fully

I asked my np who has prescribed my zyprexa for over 20 years if I could try vraylar when it first came out and she said “it was too risky for me to try”
I’ve been on 1/2 a 2.5 mg tablet of zyprexa since the spring of 1997.
The only side affects I have is bad fatigue and very high cholesterol that’s controlled by lipitor.
She said the low dose is because I’m a “slow metabolizer”

I hope Vraylar works out for ya.

I liked Vraylar. I recently went on Zyprexa because Vraylar wasn’t working well anymore for me.

Well Zyprexa is not an option for me. Ain’t no way I’m gonna get put on that weight gaining crap

Great news!! The prior authorization for my secondary insurance got approved. Now we just need to wait to see if my primary insurance will approve it.

I’m on 6 mg of Vraylar, which is kind of a high dose

It’s pretty activating, I think. Gives me some mental energy, while reducing my positive symptoms and enhancing my mood. Overall, great med IMO
