Going to try a Secular AA meeting

Someone on this forum mentioned meetup.com, and I enrolled in it. Meetup has a Secular AA meeting within walking distance of of where I live, so I’m going to try it. Does anyone have any experience with Secular AA meetings?

I know about AA but what does secular mean?

I’ve been to them in larger centres, I found them helpful.

Yes. Peer support seems to be the crux of it. ( I’m an atheist and not an expert on non secular things) .

Without religion and probably spiritual aspects, though I’m not sure about that one.

Yea I googled it. It’s for people who are atheist, agnostic, or alternate spiritual beliefs.

Uh, no. Secular means no religion. Someone shows up and talks about how their voodoo keeps them sober and they will be politely shown the door. Plenty of meetings for religious folk, even the weird ones.

Well I went to tonight’s meeting. The meeting is for all Substance Abuse, not just alcohol, so it’s not rightly called an AA meeting.
They mostly talked about issues Freethinkers, atheists and agnostics, have. They were lacking in talk about substance abuse. I am liberally a Christian, not quite ready to let go of God.
But I felt welcome in the group.
