Going to the doctor today

I’m super nervous.

He’s some sort of specialist I’ve been waiting to see since I moved here,

He only sees adults with schizophrenia, so at least I know I won’t get referred to someone else when things get weird.

Its been so long since I’ve been to a psychiatrist, even longer since I’ve been compliant in pretty much any respect.

I don’t even know what to expect,

Just absolutely dreading it.

I was so scared of this appointment I didn’t even sleep last night,

They most definitely will not reschedule again and if I don’t go my husband is going to be upset,

So, its on.

Wish me luck…

I haven’t seen a psychiatrist for 7 years, I would like to know what my diagnosis would be now, I guess it would be schizoaffective bipolar type 2.
I hope the appointment goes well.

You will do great! I’m very happy for you.

Best of luck! :sunny:

I’m back!

It wasn’t bad, at all.

He didn’t ask questions that were super invasive questions,

He agreed not to load me up with a ton of meds,

And he wasn’t a jerk about the weed.

So, it was a nice first appointment.

I’m sure he’s going to want me to make some changes and get into therapy,

But he said not to shake up my routine too much right now and just make small adjustments.

Now I feel like such a drama queen for freaking out all week about it.

He gave me some abilify and a benzo,

I’m supposed to take the pills this week and start injections next week if everything goes well,

I’ll probably not fill the benzo prescription.

You have not been a drama queen, it is the illness…
I get a large amount of irrational anxiety days before an appointment too. :worried:

Welcome to club abilify :v:

Yes, welcome to the abilify club from me too.

Make sure you get regular blood tests as abilify can raise your blood sugar. I’m on metformin for that. But metformin has no side effects (and can extend your life apparently).

You are not being a drama queen! I’m glad the appointment went well. Anyone could be really nervous about seeing a new pdoc. You have no idea what to expect and if a person is psychotic, the Dr has all the control. At least where I live the Dr does. That’s scary! I don’t blame you for being nervous at all!

I know my pdoc well and he’s super nice and i still get all tied up on knots seeing him. It’s completely normal. And you did it!!! That’s awesome! I hope all works out well for you!!

A good psydoc is a really good thing to have behind you! They see a lot of things and the decent ones have a good idea of what works once they get to know you. It’s really an art than a science which makes it all a bit hit or miss.

Glad you went and glad it was a pleasant thing! I think it’ll be great for your health!
