In England:
Kindergarten is called play group
Highschool is called secondary school
College is called University
And we also have college which there isn’t an equivalent for. Its basically a couple of years between secondary school and university where its more relaxed.

We used to say votech for vocational technical school where you learn a trade, such as auto mechanic, plumber, electrician.

In 1977 I graduated high school with a C average and wasn’t cut out for the university. I went to a votech and got an associate’s degree in Business Computer Programming.

After graduating I got a job at a bank and made $13,200.00 a year. That was more money than I had ever made in my life, as I was working at age 14. Now that’s below the Federal Poverty Level.

We call young girls (not underage) chickens in French, its Poulette.

Child labor laws in Arkansas USA were you could work limited hours at age 14, and drop out of school at 16 and work unlimited hours.

Most California slang terms that I’m aware of are very outdated, terms like ā€œradā€, ā€œgnarlyā€, ā€œstokedā€, ā€œhellaā€, and so forth.

Sliced deli meat where I’m from is called ā€˜cold cuts’. But I have reason to believe it’s just called ā€˜lunch meat’ elsewhere.
