Getting the hang of things

After struggling about 2-4 weeks ago, I think I’m really getting into the swing of living on my own. It’s great that I don’t have to give in to my Mum’s demanding ways anymore. I can make simple things for supper and besides, I’m not much of a foodie, anyway. Today, I did some laundry at the recovery center, had lunch there, but decided to skip recovery class as I was really tired. Washed some dishes, made a grocery list, and then my support worker took me to the Superstore. It’s nice to have a simplified life, and I think I’m still doing well financially. All in all, I’d say I’m doing really doing well!

You get these services from a mental health clubhouse? I never fully took advantage of them.

My support worker works out of the local mental health clinic and the recovery center (which is just down the street from me) is tied to the clinic. For $0.50 (CDN) you can have breakfast and lunch, and you can do your laundry for free. They even supply detergent and dryer sheets, although, any one client is allowed to do it no more than twice a week there.

That is really cool! I wish they had support services like that here.

I would go to a mental clubhouse and profess lol

I would say Saint John, where I live, has one of the best mental health systems in the country. A big reason for that is the old provincial mental hospital was here and when that closed down, the patients were let out in to the community.

That’s a great success story. I hope it continues and gets even better.
