Future of gene editing in Parkinson's disease

Research into gene editing in Parkinson’s is more established than many other areas, however there isn’t any reason it need be confined only to Parkinson’s in the future.

The article is long, so the main take-aways for sz are that researchers have had initial successes with targeting 3 different genes at the same time (important to sz because it’s not a monogenic disease) and recent developments are making it possible to administer these treatments with an injection, IV infusion, or maybe someday a pill.

This isn’t going to happen in the next couple years. It’s taken 25 years or so to get to this point with Parkinson’s (but we build on existing knowlege and don’t have to relearn everything we’ve figured out in the last 25 years.)

Yes i am wating for sz trail for gene editing …!!! How long will it take do u have any ideas…!!

I don’t really know. There are 1,500 or so trials for various gene therapies, but only a few approved therapies. It’s just the beginning.

There is some new progress in the genes of sz, with 34 or so genes and their associated protiens being identified as significant.

Really hard to say but I’d be surprised if there wasn’t at least a clinical trial within the next 25 years.

My shrink is good and he thinks that these sort of finds will help with a treatment for schizophrenia with those negative symptoms!
