My friend was on Medicaid and not working. She was denied disability. So she went back to work. Her case manager had her fill out a form that she says enables my friend to keep Medicaid permanently regardless of her income. She now makes over the income limit and yet is still on Medicaid. Is this really permanent?! Has anyone heard of this?! I’m disabled and I don’t get Medicaid. How is this fair?! We make just over the limit because my daughter turned 18 so we can’t claim her and my step daughters mom claims her on taxes even though we have her the majority of the time. We are both disabled. We tried to claim my step daughter this year and they wouldn’t let us because her mom claimed her last year. Why does my not disabled friend get permanent Medicaid even though she makes too much money???!!!
what state does she live in? Does she have children living in the home? Do the children have their own income?
@Leaf She lives with her mom. She has no children. She is single. She makes 30k without a house payment. Her dad died and left her an inheritance - she has that too
what state? 1515
Michigan @Leaf 1515
She also says she doesn’t pay a premium
I never heard of that and I live In a pretty liberal state for Medicaid. We have it but still have some copays on adult medicine and if I see a doctor out of network it is not covered.
I just don’t get how she’s getting it
I tried to look up special programs for Michigan and the website is crap. The only thing I can think of is there is some kind of special program for disabled individuals in her circumstance. You’re right though it doesn’t seem fair to your family.
I know that my daughter and husband get Medicaid automatically since they got SSI. But if we make over a certain amount it would get cut.
Yeah. It would for everyone else too @anon4362788. That’s why I don’t get it
It’s really weird. I have never heard of such a thing. I know with disability here you have to pay $100 for medicaid monthly. I can’t find anything online about that either.
Once people get disability approved, can she/he drive legally?
In my state, NE, we can drive legally on Medicaid. But, I choose not to drive. My son drove. But, he probably should not have. I am not on Medicaid. My son was on Medicaid.
I can. @bjrpengjing They never took my license away.
