Does anyone know anything about medicaid requirements

Particularly in Illinois. I may get married later this year. We have been trying to determine if this would affect her medicaid.

She has called ss office several times and cant seem to get a straight answer out of them.

We are both on disability at this point, her more recently than me. She lives in Illinois and I in Iowa. I think we have similar income levels. I dont know how she gets medicaid, frankly, because they took mine away shortly after I got medicare. I assume its a state difference.

Anyway, Im just wondering if anyone here has experience with medicaid and marriage and increasing joint income due to it.

I doubt anyone here does but its been a ■■■■■ finding answers anywhere.

Maybe we would have more luck calling a state medicaid offices. IDK>

I think the programs all vary by state.

She may be calling the wrong people.

Anyone?

Your wife may lose her Medicaid because both of your incomes are combined, and that amount may exceed the income max. That said, you and your future wife need to speak to an attorney:

[As of January 1, 2025, the income limit for Illinois Medicaid is 200% of the federal poverty level (FPL) plus 5%. The FPL for 2025 is $15,650 for an individual and $21,150 for a couple. ] AI Overview
Let’s do a hypothetical: Both of you have SSDI, and both of you receive $12,000/year. So that’s $24,000/year.

Illinois federal poverty level for a married couple is $21,150/year. $21,150 x 200%=$42,300. $42,300x 105%=$44,415

So, if I’m correct, your wife will not lose her Medicaid as long as your combined income is no greater than $44,415

I have to go to bed, I’ll chat with you tomorrow. Have a good night.
