They have this. It’s called therapy.

There’s some big money in the mental illness world so I doubt they’ll do that.

But I like the idea of this. Sadly, I doubt it’s ever going to happen.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been in high school, but I think in my psych or health class we learned a little bit about mental illnesses.

But yeah, I think it would be a good thing. Maybe some kind of early education on MI would help people get help at a younger age/and also I think it would be an overall good thing for public awareness of MI.

I don’t know. Could lead to unnecessary drugging of people. If people really have serious mental health problems, they’ll find their way to mental health services eventually.

I’m not sure about this, at least for me. I was showing signs of mental illness all my life, but it really started getting bad when I was 13. I never was hospitalized until 15, and by then I had already tried to commit suicide multiple times.

Sorry I’m too tired to respond. Have taken my Seroquel tonight as usual.

No, I think that at the moment someone suffers from such a disease. The rest of the world does not have to be confronted with it. If someone gets cancer, for example, you would not learn the class either.

It is lonely and desolate, but if you have the disease you are suffering alone. Of course, special provisions can be made. and you can usually talk about it because there is a lot of diversity in the world. But that’s the way it is. imo

We can be hopeful though. I’m sure the educational system will improve. It’s already such a disaster, people are constantly trying to take steps to progress.

Ideally, people would learn about mental health issues in a positive way. (Not like high school psych classes where the kids make fun of the mentally ill)

I would also want to see proper sexual education that talks about proper birth control and also addresses gay sex. (Being queer in sex ed was very confusing, I never learned anything that was relevant to me)

In Canada it needs to be improved, but I’ve heard horror stories about sex Ed in the US.

Not to mention proper history classes. In all my years of social studies not once did my teachers talk about the genocide of indigenous peoples of Canada, not even residential schools (which were still running even when I was born in the 90s)

And it wasn’t like we didn’t know. The students were all aware of Canada’s past, yet the teachers chose not to talk about the monstrosities that the aboriginal people had to endure.

Getting off topic though. I’m just hopeful that the education system will one day improve. Students should learn life skills and valuable information, not learn to be better at taking tests.

Sorry for somewhat derailing the thread. I’m pretty bad at getting off topic, and I also have a problem with writing short novels when I should be simplifying what I want to say.

Even if they do this they will cause more harm cause there is a wide lack of science and contradictory ideas in this field, they will cause more harm than help,

My school system spent years trying to figure me out. They started giving me psychological evaluations in 3rd grade. I wasn’t showing signs of schizophrenia I just had major behavior issues. I had a high IQ and my memory skills were off the charts. I didn’t do my school work and I was highly disruptive. In 7th grade I got suspended and punched a locker. I broke 2 bones in my hand. I calmed down in high school and started doing my work. I was an honor student and I quit getting in trouble. I didn’t start having symptoms of schizophrenia until 11th grade.

I think it’s a good idea.
I also think it should be on the teacher’s corriculum, for them to learn more about how to spot mental illnesses in kids and teens.

I can’t help but feel like if my teachers had intervened sooner instead of just telling my parents that I was “on the offense and not paying attention”, I might have gotten much-needed help in time.

They should also have a class on fixing a car, balancing a check book, etc. Basically, life skills.

I took an abnormal psychology class in college. Was before I got sick but when I got diagnosed with schizophrenia I didn’t even know what that was. I am assuming I studied it in school but didn’t remember anything about it.
