I say funny. Cats all react totally differently to catnip - my kittens go bonkers, but my old cat used to just down it like a sullen alcoholic when stressed out - just hunch there and chew it grimly.
This is a super weird reaction but I don’t think any cruelty was intended. As long as the cat’s okay, chalk it up as an odd trip.
