Finding value in work again

I’ve found that work is a wellness tool for me. I worked for 5 years part time and then started working full time again about 7 years ago as a Peer Support Specialist. It’s hard and stressful work but it’s very rewarding to help others with their recovery process.

I’ve read that only 20% of those of us with a schizophrenia diagnosis are able to work. But I’ve found that work gives me a purpose and work gives me an income that I’ve earned.

Yeah, it’s guaranteed to get me out of the house for a large part of the day, three days a week.

I am awaiting a phone call about going back and helping with the cricket club again. They treated me like crap so it will be on my terms but wouldn’t mind a couple of days doing the pitch again.

After not working for much of 2022, I am grateful that I have now sustained employment for nearly a year

Was convinced I could never go back to it

But I find myself when I am idle to be less well

That’s why I apply for jobs and see if anything comes of it

My current job I just applied and took a test, next thing I know, I got offered the job

This was despite having a gap in my employment

Don’t give up trying if you can stomach the ride!

I went to " state retirement" to find out about my situation. I was getting benefits, money from the state while working. So I went to check it out.
I was told that I am not allowed to work with class II disability.
Anyway looks like I have to quit the job. But if I find something else first I have to go to the state department to change the diasability class first in order to be able to work.
It sucks. It’s stressfull since I liked workig there and the money were decent.
