“FBI” called my sister (USA federal police)

They called my sister today and told her multiple cards had been put in her name and asked her for the name of her bank and last 4 of her social security number and she gave it to them. Now she’s on the phone with her bank cancelling her debit card. She called my dad crying. Typical of my dad he saved the day by telling her it’s a scam and to call the bank.

Ohhh sh-it. I’ve fallen for many. Bad guys everywhere. Hope she didn’t lose money.

Well, she gave them the name of her bank and the last four of her social. So my dad told her to call the bank and I told her to put a fraud alert on her credit reports.

Someone tried this with my sister last week. I guess crime pays if these schmucks are getting away with it.

I’m surprised my sister fell for it. I thought she was smarter than that. My dad and I both told her that if she was in trouble the FBI would knock on her door.

She said everything was ok but I said that if they could give your name, last four of your social and the name of your bank card they could get credit in your name. I told her put a flag on her credit report that they have to call her at a specific number. I know these things. I was a credit screening consultant for the phone company.

It’s so prevalent these types of scams and all it takes is a simple slip up and your a victim. Feel for your sister. I’ve been taken in before but haven’t given over any details. Official governments don’t ring you about anything!

I have recently been called from a robo caller saying that there was social security fraud and that my benefits will be cut, I hung up and checked the mail, and nothing at all from the Social Security office. Now I still don’t know if the call was legit.

She was crying when she called Daddy but she canceled her bank card and she’s going to flag her credit. When I called her back this evening she was fine. No tears.

A few weeks ago I got my first ransom email. Person said they had video of me satisfying myself :cucumber:from my phone and would send it to all my contacts within 48 hours unless I paid him in bitcoin.

I thought it was clever, but after searching I found it was pretty common.

If you’re in the USA you can go to socialsecurity.gov and get the number to call them. I read something from ss once that said the the ss office will never call you. They will always communicate thru mail.

You know how you can photoshop someone’s head onto someone else body. Someday with technology we will be able to videoshop. But anyway why are they scamming someone on ssdi?

I heard that too, now that you are saying that I remember. Thank you @Loke I feel my thoughts on that settle.

Idk the probably don’t have a clue as to the person’s net worth. They’re just looking for suckers. I found news articles about major cities and corporations paying ransom to hackers to un hack their computer systems. It goes on all the time. Just have to keep yourself educated and not fall for it.

I’m pretty sure the technology already exists to put someone’s face and voice onto another body. I’ve seen videos on YouTube.

Holy crap!!!

Not saying your sister is a sucker*

They were saying she was on a suspect list and that she could be arrested that multiple accounts around the world were opened in her name.
@nfy. My sister is a Christian and very good hearted so she didn’t fathom they would lie to her.
