I get crushing pain in my chest that lasts about 30 minutes. I can barely breathe and I get very nauseated. I take a prescription for reflux. This is different. I know emergency dept will do nothing except make me feel stupid. Walk ins won’t be any better. One day this will kill me.
Emergency will do a ecg on your heart.
Try to quit cigs!
It’s probably heartburn. Try to drink more water and eat before you smoke
I have prescription meds for heartburn/reflux. This is nothing like it.
Have you tried Nicotine Replacement Therapies?
When I went previously my results were inconclusive. You’d think then I’d need another test or something but got sent home with nothing solved. The hospital here is known to look down on people with mental illnesses as well as people who are poor. The best hospital is over an hour away.
I hope you’re okay my fellow Canadian
@FatMama, If you know that this is different from your regular heartburn, you should probably call an ambulance now. Does it feel like an elephant lying on your chest? Do you have any pain in your arms, back, or jaws?
Try lying on your left side. I used to get bad acid reflux by lying on my right.
It has passed which is what happens every time. Tomorrow afternoon I am seeing a nurse to see about compression stockings to control my blood pressure. I’ll ask her for advice if she seems open to that.
I have zero intention to quit smoking. I only smoke six or less.
Sorry to you all if I came across as bitchy. It’s been one of those days.
Take my advice please, I’ve been a heavy smoker for many years and experienced the same thing multiple times. My resting heart rate was 150/90. They told me if I dont quit smoking I would die of a heart attack. I chose to switch to 4mg nicotine gum which is equivalent to 2 cigarettes. I chew about 8 a day.
My heart rate remained the same but the pain was now gone. I was placed on Propanolol 160mg a day and my heart rate fell to 120/75.
I weigh 160 pounds and I’m only 28.
Ask you primary dr for a Holter monitor. It’ll record 24 hours which will include that entire 30 minutes.
I will see if my dr will do that
It might go away and get better on it’s own. Then again, maybe it won’t. I agree with you that you should tell a nurse or doctor about it. It sounds serious enough that it should be checked out as soon as possible. It is a sign something is wrong, the majority of people do not walk around with huge pain in their chest. Better to play it safe and get it checked out pronto.
