Ever relapse when antipsychotic medication was switched

What happened when they switched antipsychotics

I’ve never relapsed when switching meds. I just felt the same.

I’ve never relapsed while switching APs, but my doctors always cross-titrated them. I reduced one while increasing the other, so there was never a time when I had too little AP.

I relapsed switching to Abilify. I ended up in hospital. It took my sleep away and made me very anxious. It was a disaster.

I never relapsed. I just stayed as sick as always when my pdoc switched meds. It was only when he started adding meds is when I started getting better.

My pdoc said he had cases of relapse from risperidone to Abilify which is why I never changed

I want to switch to Abilify but worried about the same. What medication were you on when they switched

When i stopped clozaril on my own (it made my heart feel weird and my respiratory system was depressed for 12 hours, made me tired too), I started sleeping with the door locked and had a knife beside me while i slept. This was 7 months ago and i still do this. But i would say it was a very mild, yet constant form of psychosis that lasted 5 months and nowadays i still sleep with a knife but im slowly taking steps to trust more. Come to think of it I didnt sleep with a knife this whole last week. I just slept on the couch so i felt safe being close to the front door…idk, baby steps.

But going off or switching an AP causes psychotic symptoms. Your brain increases dopamine because its trying to make up for the lack. And suddenly it can actually do that so it goes too far and people sometimes have new symptoms or worse symptoms.

Its a problem because when someone is misdiagnosed and takes an AP, then goes off, the pdoc just says “see look, you are sz”.

APs are as hard core as it gets.

I did that switch and i didnt relapse for like 2 years. I was even feeling better this period then i got worse and changed again the AP

I was on Latuda. It gave me akasthsia though after 18 months. I ended up on Haloperidol but that gave me movement problems and now I am settled on Amisulpride. I have tried 6 meds so far

I became psychotic when I switched from risperidone to Vraylar, 3 years ago.
Had to be hospitalized.

Ä° switched from risperidone to clozaril and clozaril to invega. Non of them caused relapse on me.

I switched from risperidone to abilify and didn’t relapse, it actually made me feel better.

I just switched to abilify a few months ago. There were two weeks that â– â– â– â– â– â– â–  sucked. I smoked cbd flower out of a dry herb vape whenever I was having problems and that helped TREMENDOUSLY.

Oh yeah, abilify is the best med I’ve been on yet. I’m only on 10mg too…

How to switch med from time to time? Do you get withdraw symptoms when changing med? Do you get withdraw symptoms if you are on the med for only couple months during the process of finding a right med?

Only on Olanzapine. My doctor used to stop and start the new one and one time he ran two at the same time. Just depends on how long you have taken it I guess as to how dependent you are on it

I’m switching to Abilify injection from Invega in the end of this month. Hoping for a smooth transition. But should not be a problem. I’ve heard that the Invega Trinza protects from psychosis for several months after stopping it.
