as a boy the whole nation would always sit in front of the t.v.s to watch Evel Knievel jump cars on his motorcycle. He crashed a couple times I think. really messed him up too. He still did it…I’m going to post a jump after I post this.
Sure, he was hugely popular in the 1970’s. His crashes were notoriously spectacular, I think many people tuned into his jumps just to see him crash. He’s definitely one of the most famous daredevils who ever performed. At one time or another, he broke almost every bone in his body.
That’s pretty ballsy. I don’t think we’ll see anyone like him again.
I think his signature outfit is an iconic sight of the 70’s. I’m not sure if he wore it in every one of his stunts or attempts but in many cartoons and other forms of media the star lined white jump suit is a reminder of Evel Knievel.
Hi son, Robbie Knievel, who followed in his fathers footsteps and was a great daredevil in his own rite, just died this January at age 62.
yes, I used to laugh my head off at Super Dave doing funny things in a star lined white jump suit with helmet of course…hilarious. forgot all about that.
That was one of those fads I couldn’t get my head around as a kid. A bunch of my friends were crazy over the stupid EK wind-up stunt bike while I tried to talk my mom into getting me an EZ Bake oven. I also remember an episode of the live-action Spiderman getting pre-empted so people could watch him break some more bones. I didn’t catch up to that episode until I was an adult (thank you Youtube!).
When I got my first tattoo the tattoo artist friend was sitting in the front of the Parlor watching Evel Knievel do jumps like this
