Emerson on individuality and wisdom

Intuition is a strange (and dangerous) concept.

I think betting or gambling relies on intuition, yet the house always wins at the roulette in the long run, because of the zero slot. Whoever invented roulette games knew his math.

People also claim intuition helps them choose a life partner, yet the rate of divorce remains high across the globe.

And right or wrong may seem obvious to you and me, until we get to discuss them in more detail. Several hot topics come to mind: death penalty, abortion, immigration laws / multiculturalism.

Last example. For cannibals it is perfectly normal to eat human flesh. Their intuition differs from ours.

I agree with Andrey, that intuition can be dangerous - I see his logic perfectly

Unless you keep doubling up when playing for a colour!

Wisdom comes from doing the wrong thing once and deciding that twice is too much.

Three things help here:

  1. You’re dating Teela Brown.
  2. Your winning helps her.
  3. You’re not on the Ringworld.

Someone had to point this out.

Math and deep pockets will also do! They don’t allow it though.

Some things be just wrong and we know it. Always bet on black.

Indeed.
